On Wi-Fi & Routers

Guys,

I am looking forward to buying a Wi-Fi router for my home use. All I need is good range (good enough to browse internet sitting on my terrace) and reliability. The Wifi router would be installed in a room with no A/C or fan running all the time.

Can you please guide me to a good brand and model for the same.

My budget is 2k's max.

Your help is highly appreciated.

P.S. Couldnt find a topic on the same hence posting a new thread.

I am using a Netgear router for my home. Serving me fine. Has enough range that I dont go below the "Good" reception range within my house. But I have no clue whether it would do that if I go to my neighbour's place one floor above. I think it should not cause much trouble.
The product for me has been VFM and i got it for some 1800 bucks a few months back from Nehru Place.
Model WGR614. Hope it helps.

Hey abhinav you dont need one in UK. It comes with the internet connection hence no need to take one from here.

My accommodation at the university has Internet but with ethernet and not a wireless connection.
Would be needing it for my cell phone etc.

I would suggest Linksys WRT54G or WAG200G, if you can still find the latter in the market i.e.

For best range, go for N protocol.

I think Linksys WRT54G is not available in market but the sleeker WRT54G2 was available when I bought a year ago, and costed me 2.5K including VAT. So prices may have come down. Very sleek and never had a problem and signal is decent when i'm in other rooms even through closed doors.

Please check prices on UK sites (using google.co.uk is a good start!) before buying one here to take with you!

Netgear etc all do the job lovely - why don't you ask your telco to upgrade your ADSL instead of invest money?

I would recommend Linksys WRT54G2 which is a B/G standard wireless router. The router is very sleek and reliable. Its previous version WRT54G was know for its reliability. WRT54G2 sells for around 2.4K in Bangalore.

That wont give me good range because of poor quality signal besides they are known to be very unreliable as far as connection quality is concerned.
My telco is MTNL
