Hey I bought Dell Inspiron Mini 10. As it has Win 7, it's little slower compare to XP but overall I am very happy with the performance. I too use it only for casual browsing & document editing purpose.
Though I got it quite cheap in deal :), I feel it's worth spending around 19k for this.

If money is not that critical then how about a small Notebook with say 13" screen and no DVD. These are under or around 1.2kg! I was thinking of a netbook last year but ended up buying an Acer 3810T.

Can you tell us what the spec of your Acer 3810T is? Did you buy it in India and at what cost? Is it readily available?
Thanks

Why not consider samsung netbook?its build quality is good, also quite reliable using it as download rig presently.:)

I did check those, the display was not that great as per my opinion, I compared it with otthers like HP, Dell, Acer, Vaio side by side at Croma.

hi guys,
I have an Asus Eee PC that i bought in the US.

I dont know the prices in India, but the netbook has been pretty good till now (3 months).

The only thing i was worried is the A$$, and i guess the same applies to MSI too. This one seems well packaged. There is nothing to indicate that it is a Taiwanese company.

The screen is LED and 10 inches - pretty good to browse for short durations. The mouse pad has multi-touch, and you can do zoom-in and zoom-out like in an iphone. This is specifically useful while browsing.

It has USB / WiFi. I dont know about bluetooth as i never tried it. It does not have HDMI and i heard the newer models have it.

My point is, if you get these kind of netbooks for a substantially cheaper price, then it may be worth it. If you have anyone from whom you can source spares from US, then also these work well as you can alwats buy spares over the internet. Otherwise, it is always better to buy something with better support (HP, Dell etc).

I am pretty interested in MSI netbook/notebook range. But i am unable to find any stores in Bangalore that stock these models. Any pointers to where I can buy this in Bangalore would be appreciated.

MSI India ? Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

I had to use IE Tab in Firefox to get to this. But clicking the link opened it in Firefox itself.

No sweat.

The site is at (for people not in Bangalore):

Guys any one using MSI or Asus net/notebooks ever had to use their India service centres. I know these are highly regarded in the US of A but I am a bit skeptical about their presence in india. I need this info as I am about to finalize a Asus or a MSI notebook to be imported from USA.

I have more or less decided on either of these 3 netbooks (I need 2 - one for my dad and the other for myself)

1. HP Mini 210
2. Acer Aspire One 532
3. Asus 1005HA

(I chucked out Dell from this list. I went to check out the models at Croma. All netbooks had been on since morning, but I noticed Dell had a very hot underbody. That made me really skeptical about its long term operation).

A couple of more questions to fine tune my choice:
1. Which has a better battery life amongst the two? (Thats going to be a deal braker)
2. I'm planning to buy the DOS version of Netbook for myself and load up Ubuntu NetBook Remix OS. How easy is it to get used to Linux OS? (I'm just plain bored of Win Xp and have heard Win 7 Starter is actually a Non-Starter, so I wish to avoid it)

I use a DELL Inspiron Mini. It's pretty good. 8 hours of battery life. When the low battery warning comes up, the time left is 45 mins or so, for an 8~10% charge. Bought it for 17k + accessories(1K).

Below is a pic of it along with my DELL XPS M1530.

Using a Samsung N120 since around a year back, bought it for Rs 23.5 K with external slim DVD burner.
The quality of the product is excellent and till date have not problem. You can read my review on

No idea about ASUS, but MSI Wind netbook works for 10 hours everyday without a whimper. And they have not needed any attention even after more than a year. But they are not used daily, only when a desktop conks, these are used.

I have three ACER notebooks which have been going on for more than 2 years (10 hours on a daily basis) with none of them ever needing attention.

The only note / net book that has given trouble in my shop is the Dell that I am typing on. And this fellow does heat up when the airway gets blocked. And it gets blocked regularly. So it is opened up and the airway is cleaned whenever it starts heating up.

And our DOS inventory program makes it jump by 15 degree Centigrade (from a normal standby level) whenever that runs.

I have experience among the above only with Acer One, but may not be the same model. The battery life is easily 6+ hours.

MSI has come to India with its range of Laptops and Netbooks only around 2 years back. The support centers in Mumbai are at Lamington road and at Santacruz. Most of their Netbooks have won design awards and they have been pioneers in this field only because of the huge R&D and design team they have in Taiwan and they are OEM's.

It will surely take sometime before people start connecting to this brand as compared to the established brands in India. But I have put in my money on two of their products and very happy cause touch wood no problems till date. One positive thing I can tell you guys is I had a MSI Laptop replace my HP :D
