Please clarify why he wants a graphics card and what type. There are two distinct types - for games and for CAD & GIS. In case he wants for photo editing that is another realm, where fast card and the CPU speed at required.

If its gaming, he should consider AMD also.

The Dell M150R is a 3 core 64x processor with a lavish dedicated 1Gb DDR3 discrete graphic and it retails around 34k after bargaining for the 5% disc

There is a quad core AMD also around 42k

Plus the new thing that Dell has introduced is that you can opt for a raw OS free laptop which gives you full freedom to install your favored OS and save on money wasted on the shipped OS.

I am not in india currently but just got myself a Dell Vostro 3500 model. i5, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd. Costed me just under 35K INR. There was one other Vostro model with 1GB dedicated Video RAM that should give better gaming experience. So maybe you can check the Vostro series. Lookswise, it is more rugged and the aluminium top helps avoid those fingerprint marks.

Does anyone have Asus G73Jh/G73Jw/G53Jh/G53Jw ? I'd love if someone could share ownership review about one. And the price, if bought in India.

What ??? It's available for less than $1500 (=Rs. 67500) online. Even if you add Rs. 7,000 as custom duties, and another Rs. 7,000 as international shipping, it still works out to Rs. 82,000. Savings : Rs. 30,000.

If anyone's interested in buying a laptop from US, I found a site which has very positive reviews on the net. (And they ship internationally) (that too with 8GB RAM)

Gaming Laptops - XOTIC PC - Gaming Notebooks - Custom Laptops - Custom Notebooks

PS : I'm in no way affiliated to this site. Just consider it a very tempting option if such are the prices in India.

I don't get it, why such a huge price difference ? Is the situation same with other brands ?

re: THE Laptop Thread: Configs, deals and questions

Hey guys! I'm on the lookout for a laptop. I'll be using it mainly for running CAD, ProE and other such design software. My budget is a maximum of US $1100. I've shortlisted MacBook Pro (13inch) and the Alienware M15x. Any other suggestions guys?

Just came to know shipping a lappy from US to India will set you back by ~ $350-$400. :(

Yes shipping is costly. It only makes sense if brought in as part of luggage.

Actually compared to amazon and likes Xotic PC is slightly more expensive. And yes, the prices in India are crazy.
I mean would you get a i5-460M 18.4" Nvidia GTX 460M, 500GB 7200RPM, 4 GB RAM for less than 50,000?
Heck laptops with the mid-midrange 5730 cost 700$ here and over 1300$ in India.

Hmm...it's got very positive reviews, besides you can customize your laptop there, a facility I don't think Amazon provides.

So I won't be buying my lappie from India, that's for sure. Now the only thing left is to find someone from US.

Guess that's how ICE-wallahs feel (about the crazy prices here for their high-end audio equipment).

Actually most gaming laptops come in various configurations prebuit. So unless you have very specific requirements, you can find a prebuilt config which suits your needs
