Guys I will be getting a DELL in around 10 days. So I need some advice. I am confused about the price as different dealers are having different quotes.
My requirements are listed below. Please tell me the price that I shall pay:-

Either(depending on the price)

1) 500 GB Hard Disk, 4GB RAM, i5 processor, 1 GB Graphics Card

Or,

2) 320 GB Hard Disk, 3GB RAM, i3 processor, 1 GB Graphics Card

whatever price dell quotes you should phone the dell rep or wait for them to call you and start some hard bargaining. I'd say aiming for 4000INR below the listed site price should be a good enough target.

u could use ideas like quoting a cheaper laptop with the same config and tell the rep that you want to decide between the laps but the price difference is bothering you.

if he refuses to budge then tell him you'd rather go for the other lap and hang up. hopefully he might call. if he doesn't, call the sales helpline and get another rep and start again.

best of luck!

See the problem is I reside in Kolkata and they dont send laptops here. So I will have to get it from the DELL Exclusive showrooms or any other computer shop.
Is it possible to bargain at the DELL Exclusive Stores??

It is always possible to bargain. India is land of bargainer hunters, so no harm trying. In fact it should be easier to bargain in a shop, rather than on the telephone.

If Dell does not send the laptops then how do they maintain them? I would be careful and investigate service back up before buying such a product.

AMD introduces Fusion platform - These are low powered chips and offers better graphics (such as movie playback) on low end laptops & netbooks.

Before going into price, check if you require 4GB RAM. Unless you go for 64 bit OS, 4GB wont be recognized. 1 GB would be there lying useless.

Coming to harddisk, 500GB is too much (ofcourse it depends). You really can;t fill 500GB worth data. If you do, backup will be pain.
Better to go for 320Gb and get external harddisk with 500GB or 1TB for backup purposes.

If its dell, OS would be 64 bit Win 7. Win 7 uses RAM really well. E.g. if RAM is unused, it will use it a I/O cache.

Friends I think I will settle for the option 2. The Dell shop is quoting Rs. 41600 for this configuration and not for the option 1. How much do you think I should bargain down to, I mean what should be my starting price?

Pancham, Aroy is correct and in any case the Dell exclusive is just a fancy name given to a dealer's outlet that is committed to selling only Dell machines from that particular outlet. Scratch the surface and you will find the same old computer wala ever willing to haggle.

Aroy, One needs a West Bengal road permit to ship anything into that state. Obtaining the said permit for individual buyers is next to impossible and this could be one of the reasons why Dell may not be delivering. As for parts and all, their after sales is sourced out to a couple of vendors on an all India basis. The vendors would obtain the required WB road permits as for them it is a commercial activity and on a scale that is worth the effort and the expense. I therefore do not foresee any issues with service etc.
