It is about the business applications which are installed, which needs a specialist to re-install on a fresh OS.

I shall look into AOMEI partition assistant.

Yep! I have moved all of them to my external drive.

Thank You!

Didn't pickup MSI purely because there wasn't any local retailer or service. Otherwise the specs were phenomenal.

Yes MSI retails mostly though online stores especially via Amazon.
The omen is one badass looking laptop especially with the backlit keyboard and the design on the top.

Can you provide a feedback about this? Is it satisfactory in performance? I am planning to buy the same for my wife. Her use case is minimal. Just some light ms office and surfing. Getting it for about 30-31k on paytm. Thanks in advance.

Woah. Killer looks and equally impressive specs. Congratulations bro.

Any specific reason for not considering the Alienware?

Alienware had very less customization options. For example the base model was priced at Rs. 1.27 lacs, and the next model was close to 1.7 lacs. HP Omen was competitively priced, and had upgrades at every price point. Add to that, the local Dell dealer wasn't enthusiastic in selling us an Alienware, and was busy promoting the Inspiron series.

Shashi

Re: The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions

Dear friends
Suddenly, some of the keys on my personal laptop keyboard has stopped working. The keys that are not working : q, u, y, t, j,h, m, n

If you see the pattern, all the three rows has two keys not working and they are all one below the other.

Nothing has changed or played upon. It is just lke that they stopped working. How can this be resolved ? Is it that entire Key board has to be changed ? OR can any service centre do some magic ?

Model Lennovo - W540

Please suggest

In one word - repairable.

I remember watching a youtube video on exactly how to repair this issue. It talked about how one of the lines/wires on the keyboard connector goes faulty and needs to be fixed.

the one on Paytm is (I think)the 15.6 in model which is not light or too sleek. Please check.
As far as the 14 in model which I got the performance so far has been good!

Deadly looking laptop, dude. Congrats!

How does the build feel?

How is the weight?

Any options to extend the warranty further? How is the after-sales rating?

How does the build feel?
Let me post a mini review about the device. The pictures which I am posting are taken from the internet.

Build quality is awesome, one of the best I have seen in HP, and right up there with the Macs. It features aluminium on top and high quality plastic construction everywhere.

*The display is one of the best I have experienced till date.

*Keyboard is one of its highlights: very positive and tactile feel. Almost feels mechanical. Trackpad is also excellent.

*If there is something I didn't like, was the tinny audio it has. Now again, it's when I compare with other gaming laptops.

*Another downside is, considering all its firepower, it does get considerably hot while gaming. But thanks to the dual fan setup, it cools down instantly too. Cooling pad is a must during gaming. For regular usage, it remains very cool.

*Battery backup during casual web browsing is around 5 hours.

*One thing I loved about it was the ease with which one can upgrade. Just 8 or 10 screws at the bottom, and the lid pops off exposing all its internals. Maintenance will be super easy. Battery isn't accessible from outside unlike normal laptops.

*No fingerprint sensor, unlike my previous HPs

How is the weight?
This one is lighter than my erstwhile Envy, and feels super compact. It's weight is approximately 2.3kgs. It isn't thin like the ultrabooks, but feels almost as light

I have opted for 3 year complete cover(Accidental damage protection(ADP) + On Site warranty) for Rs. 14k. HP's aftersales is one of the best in the market IMO. I have owned Dell and Asus in the past too, so I can compare.

I am yet to receive my OMEN Backpack

Some pics, taken from Notebookcheck.net:

The lid is probably aluminium, doesn't flex at all.

The bottom: Ventilation is adequate

The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions-omen15_5.jpg

This isn't backlit, unlike the Omen X

Maximum opening angle

The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions-omen15_7.jpg

Bezels are thin

The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions-omen15_10.jpg

After removing the back cover, maintenance is super easy

Some ports on the Left side

Yup, it has dual functional exhausts.

Has anyone used Keyboard Protector Films for Laptops? I see several on Amazon but some of the reviews are not good. If anyone has used one & knows of a good brand, let me know. I have a Dell Inspiron.

Requirements:

1. Good screen(prefer reasonably sized ones)
2. Not heavy
3. Brand should have good service backup
4. Good Battery backup
5. My usage is basic - Checking mails, browsing, watching Youtube videos, etc

Please suggest models(which I can buy from Amazon). Thanks

I'm guessing re-seating the keyboard flat-ribbon cable into the clamp-connector on the laptop will probably fix this.

Youtube "Lenovo W540 keyboard replacement" and you'll find the instructions to open it up. All you'll need to do is re-seat this cable.

If not, replacing a keyboard is pretty easy. Usually just a bit more difficult that replacing a HDD or RAM.

If yours has stopped working, some of my keys are automatically getting pressed and keeps being pressed!!! Can't even enter the password properly.

Lenovo Ideapad 320, less than half a year. I had this same issue with my erstwhile Dell for which I replaced the keypad but the issue came back after a year. I guess it's a hardware issue.
