The iPad Thread
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadgets-computers-software/73949-ipad-thread-5.html)
Adam has the best hardware I've come across.
The only drawback is that it does not come pre-launched with a 100,000 App bearing App Store and NotionInk, being a newbie company, might not be able to tie up with as many book-publishers as Apple can.
But it's hardware is plain awesome. If the developers are willing to support it, it'll be a competition-murderer for sure. Trust IITians to come up with something like that.

I feel like thats a problem
everyone (other than apple) seem to be facing these days! :D
But hopefully things are changing :
Twenty-four of the largest phone operators have banded together to challenge the dominance of mobile app stores, such as that operated by Apple. BBC News - Mobile firms unite to offer applications Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo –> Join us! flors

Adam's hardware is very strong. However the founders maintain that the USP of the device lies in its interface and content partnerships.
They also announced an App dev challenge worth$1 Mn - I expect this to help in creating it's app ecosystem.
Also, Adam can run on Android / Linux or Chrome (So I take it that native App's from any of these OS's can run on the tablet? - If so, then I think we will be okay in the App department.)
In terms of content, all I care about is publishing, but as more and more publications go digital -India Today & HT are already on Kindle, I think there will be plenty of choice (Plus it is in Amazon's interest to open up their marketplace to other devices, since they are in the business of selling content and not Kindles).
I think we will know soon enough how popular this device will end up being.
I know that I am shifting to a tablet this year. I have a Laptop att home that can pretty much handle my media and productivity apps, but I hate lugging it around. I browse the internet quite a bit on my smartphone, but I could use with a bigger screen and I would love to carry my reading material in one device versus spread over the computer, print news and books / mags.
Hope the product is priced competitivley and is available in our market relativley soon.

I read somewhere that it could be priced around INR 15000 for sale in India (without 3G) and starting at approx $350 in the US. Can't remember the link, though.

I am afraid that this is a similar press interpretation as the RS. 8k iPhone.
With the level of hardware and lack of projected volume, I think $350 is a subsidized price when one gets a 3G connection on contract. Newer reports are plugging the price range between 300 and 800 US.
Best to wait and watch.
Firstly, an oversized iTouch.
Secondly, "iPad" ?!? Sounds more like an electronic version of sanitary napkin. What were Apple's marketing guys thinking??
Obviously me don't want to be seen carrying one.

iPad is definitely not an 'oversized iPod touch'. Its a lot more than that.
As far as netbook is concerned, its a concept that never took off very successfully thanks to flimsy machines without any significant processing power. iPad is no netbook and best way to know about this is to read reviews on various websites.
As far as Kindle is concerned, its just an e-reader with wi-fi thrown in.

Netbook never took off! are you serious. :)
do you guys think, the touch screen keyboard will be more practical to use... i am very curious to see how many laptop users switch to Ipad...
Why would people downgrade their hardware? This is for fat people with big hands who can't work with an Iphone properly since it's just a big Iphone with equally limited and braindead software.
