I agree. But if earlier prototyes are to be believed then the camera was going to be a standard fitment on the touches. They excluded the cam at the laast moment due to technical reasons.

Reminder: ONLY 3 days to go :-$

Good point

Anyway, strip-downs of the latest Touch showed an empty compartment, enough for a camera.

11:18AM "And just like we were able to meet or exceed our tech goals, we have met our cost goals... iPad pricing starts at $499."

11:20AM "We will be shipping these in 60 days. 3G models will ship in 90 days."

11:20AM "So $499 for 16GB of iPad. That's our base model. 32GB is $599, 64GB is $799. 3G models cost an extra $130. $629, 729, and 829 with 3G."

It starts at $499 for 16GB, 32GB for $599, and $699 64GB. The pricing looks aggressive, wonder how much would this cost in india.

"SO all of us use laptops and smartphones... the question has arisen; is there room for something in the middle. We've wondered for years as well -- in order to create that category, they have to be far better at doing some key tasks... better than the laptop, better than the smartphone."

For mobility, there is iPhone and for everything else, there is the notebook. Now what purpose does this fulfill? With a 9.4 inch screen, you need huge pockets to carry this around

Absolutely agree Jaguar ,the price looks a bit too agressive.

it makes a lot of sense.

apple always had a different age-group in mind while designing/making products - the teens/early 20s - the students. this age-group people are flexible, learn and adopt new technologies easily, spend and do come under peer-pressure. rest of us just caught on to the apple products after it became fashionable.

the smallest of the macbooks is 4.5lbs in weight. at the best the battery lasts 7 hours of usage. cheapest one costs $999. typical windows notebooks are 7 lbs. battery lasts 2-3 hours. decent ones cost more than iPad-64GB pricing.

iPad is 1.5lbs, 10 hours of active usage, a month of standby time.

64GB HD might appear limited, but in this day-and-age of ubiquitous connectivity and all the docs, media, games, etc available on the net, why do you need higher hard-disk - that's where the netbook is coming from.

where's all the cool apps these days - app store - seriously. I have an ipod touch and 3 screens full of downloaded apps. ipad runs all those without any change.

a tie-up with mcgraw-hill and other publishers brings all (actually 95% as claimed by mcgraw-hill) the school textbooks to the ipad. take a load off the students - literally - no more carrying books. chat, browsing, email, work, music, video, games - all using the 1.5lbs that you carry with you.

only thing it misses is a camera.

In my opinion, it's good and all. They enlarged the iPhone, seemingly in a good way.

But what about Stevie's talks of the product that will change the world ? The iPod did that, the iPhone did that...but the iPad is just a really good tablet. Period.

I mean, it does all that iPod does, albeit on a bigger screen. That's about the end of it. All those claims made by Apple to have a revolutionary interface...it was just a touch screen keyboard with big buttons. And a keyboard dock. Heck, it even has the home button from the Touch/iPhone.

It can't do anything that iPhone cannot. The only new thing is the bigger screen and a marginally faster processor. People were hoping for some kind of television feature, it might've been a good time. And a camera or two, one for video conferencing, and the other for pic-shooting might've been a good thing.

Stevie mocked notebooks when he launched this. Notebooks are far more powerful and versatile than the Tablet. And the name, iPad. I was hoping for more like iSlate. :( :|
