Surprised, SonyEricsson official site does not have anything about P970. Any idea when is P970i is expected in Indian market ?

The p990 is now available in the grey market for a whopping 48K. Any guesses when is it going to be officially available in the Indian market? Lot of speculation that the official price is going to be a lot less around 35k.

The phone is awesome though. The new UIQ version simply rocks. The only major disadvantage is no EDGE.

You're quoting GSMarena almost verbatim, like some of our friends here . I agree that lack of EDGE will be a problem in India as we do not have 3G networks here yet - in countries where 3G is available, however, complaining about the lack of EDGE for use in fringe areas is nitpicking.

How come nobody has complained about the rather small screen? A PDA needs a screen that is at least as big as those on the O2 Atom or the iMate JAMIN to be useful for any sort of work. Imagine reading your emails (sent regularly to your phone thanks to Push Mail) or browsing spreadsheets on that screen...

The dimensions also seem to suggest that the unit is no different in size from the older P series.

Plus, you will have to spend more money on Memory Stick since SD or other cards wont work on it, and yet more money if you want to buy better headphones since they have changed to headphone jack and made it Sony-specific too!!!

Here are the first ever review and preview posts on p990i. www.gsmarena.com came up with a review on p990i after around 10 months of this post.

And here's is a pill for the brain.

www.gsmarena.com is heavily based on www.mobile-mania.cz

Here in US the price of a sandisk Memory stick pro duo differs from around $10 for a 512mb to $40 for a 4gig compared to Sandisk SD card.

The display size difference is around 0.24 inches. P990i has 2.76" QVGA (320x240 resolution for newbies) vs. 2.8" QVGA for ATom/JAmin. It is not bothersome atleast for me.

on saturday I was told the grey market price has come to 45K. BTW I'd rather get something as expensive as this with B&W in case there are technical snags.

Steerod, The really big issue I have with the Atom (and it's cousins) is the lack of a tactile numeric keypad. But this is just me. Younger buyers dont seem to find this as bothersome.

This phone seems like it stepped backwards from the P910i. Not sure why anyone would pay 40K for this!

Steeroid, I said that the phone was awesome based on what I have seen. The screen too does not feel small compared to the o2 atom. I was most impressed with the UI which looked a lot more fresh from its competition. I personally am bored looking at the win mobile 5's and the series 60s and can say that for a lot of others too.

Lack of EDGE is certainly a disadvantage and it would be difficult for me to live without it since I frequently browse the net via my phone, but otherwise as of today I will simply pickup the p990 against others available at the moment. Just waiting for the official launch.

Rumours are the official launch is going to be rather soon (approx a week from now) and the price is going to be around 35k, so better to wait and watch. Last I heard it was retailing for around 33k, grey in singapore, not sure though.

Yup i hear it will lauch at 35K official. grey will then drop to 30-33k. I have compared the 910 to reviews of the 990 (have not used the 990 yet) and while there does not see much to warrrant the price difference i think i will wait till the 990 comes out and then chooose between these 2. my primary uses are for a phone, MMS/SMS, excel spreadsheets and a camara. The camera is where the 990 should outshine the 910 most.

As far as I remember the p-series have always debuted for 35-40K price range from p800-p910i.

but previously Sonyericsson had plans for p990 as well as p970. It is possible the price range may move upto 40-45K to accomodate the Junior.
