The channai guy told me that Kochi dealer has got some basic system in demo (??). In case the similar system is not in display, then it is waste of time driving down all way to kochi (I think in present road conditions, it may take atleast 6/7 hours from Payyannur -about 350kms one way, and probably will have to stay overnight in kochi..

btw, what is your recommendation - should I go for s5300 or the combination of SR508 and HKS HT 728 (only difference in 728-the front speakers are tallboy-floor standing ). Since Onkyo DVD is very expensive
(Rs.17,500), am planning to buy samsung 1080pk which will be under Rs.5000.

sorry forgot to add the denon system

Denon 1611 + Polk audios at Rs.77,000 (expensive comparing Onkyo package). So I have these three package/offers in hand. But the first one
S5300 is a HTiB ??

Personally, I do not like the speakers from Onkyo. But their receivers are very good. You could try asking the dealer if he can offer other Receiver-Speaker combinations.

Samsung 1080PK / PR / P - I am also considering one of them.

Here, I am not too sure that a 7.1 system is worth. The above dvd players give only 5.1 output. The players on Onkyo India site too give only 5.1 output. Even the media - 7.1 DVD/VCDs are very rare. So, be very sure that you want a 7.1 setup. You may want to go up a notch in the 5.1 series itself.

As to choice between 5300 and 508, I cannot trace the parameters like distortion, SNR, speaker sensitivity etc, which can be found on the Yamaha site on the Onkyo site. And clicking on their "home theater" link gives a 404 error too. (Edit:- probably, they are having some server problem)

Reg. the choice -

1. The A/V Receivers -

http://www.onkyoindia.com/products/a...508/index.html

http://www.onkyoindia.com/products/H...5300/index.htm

(This uses the HTR 580 receiver; but that model receiver is not listed in other pages)

I cannot make out a difference here.

As I write Onkyo site has gone down; will post after they are back online again.

You can get a 7.1 ch receiver and 5.1 speakers. You can always add two new speakers later. As of now, there is very limited source for 7.1 ch. If it is possible go for the 7.1 ch receiver. Atleast that way you will be future proof. All you need to do later, is just add 2 speakers and your 7.1 ch HT will be ready

Thanks
Yes I too have checked but unable find any seperate mention about the Reciever HTR580..

SR508 - in the website they are marking as ''new''?.
I feel, instead of going to s5300which is HTiB, prefer SR508 + HTS 728 5.1ch which has got 2 floor standing speakers?
Denon guy also after me, but their package was Rs.77000 for AVR 1611
and Polk audio - the diference is too high -Rs.24000/-

Ok. So, now that Onkyo India site is back again, here is the comparo on the speakers coming wih 5300 and the skd ht 528 5.1 speaker package.

With the 5300, you get bigger sub woofers 25 cm vs. 20 cm on 528.

Well, there is'nt much other info about the 528 package.

ONKYO SIGHT & SOUND - INDIA

From the info on webpage, I cannot make out any other difference between the speaker packages.

Note addy's post above. So, which are the other 2 speakers they are offering you?

edit:- do differentiate between HTiBs from specialist audio companies and from generic brands like Sony, Samsung and LG.

Also, Polk audio is a very good name - say if Onkyo is Maruti, Polk is Fiat.

Or HTS5300 (7.1 system)

This is an excellent speaker package.

Given that is has floor standers, it will do justice to both, music and movies.

Budget 5.1 / 7.1 packages do not have "full-range" speakers for front.
