Re: Amazon Kindle

Reading on an LCD screen is very taxing on the eyes and I read somewhere that it has medical implications as well in the long run. After reading through the reviews online and looking at my requirements, I have gone ahead and bought myself a Kobo Glo E-Ink reader.

I got it in a really good deal. If anyone else is interested I can post the deal link here.

Ordered another one for the Mrs.
Need to know something - can it be connected to the Airtel 4G network? Sorry if I sound dumb. But I am seriously considering this and my net connection at home is Airtel 4G through the router. Some guidance will help please as I am quite technology illiterate.

Thanks

Re: Amazon Kindle

It can be connected to any network. There are two models, wifi and 3G. If you take the 3G model, it will use it's own 3G network (piggybacking on the various 3g providers in India) and will not use your ISP.

If you are using an Airtel 4G router, it just works like a Wifi Connection, so you can connect any wifi enabled devices to the network, including the Kindle.
I have an Airtel 4G router too at home and have no problems connecting my Nook to it.

Pick up the wifi one - no use spending more on the 3G Version. Most of our phones already can create a hotspot.

You have to mention the model of the kindle, just search with it online on amazon.in. Plenty of options. I have a very good one that has an inbuilt reading light that cost me 50 USD.

Not cheap but good quality - have used one like this for over 6 months now without any wear and tear at all:

Re: Amazon Kindle

Does anyone have more details on Kindle Voyage and its launch in India ? Will it be a significant upgrade over the INR 9k paperwhite ?

Re: Amazon Kindle

Even in US it is still pre-order, they are obviously aiming for Christmas sales. It may not come to India until after that.

Meanwhile, my 2nd gen kindle just completed 4 years. Still works perfectly, the quality of this device is just unbelievable. I will upgrade to the Kindle Voyage when it is available.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Am looking to purchase my first Kindle device. How does the All-New Kindle, 6" Glare-Free Touchscreen Display, Wi-Fi sound? as in, is it a good first time device. I read quite a lot.

If you really read a LOT then invest in the Paperwhite, you wont need anything else for 3-4 years.

The major difference between the basic kindle and the paperwhite is the presence of light in the latter. So, it depends on what kind of reading you intend to do.
