If you buy using your Amazon.com account, it will be pre-registered to your account before shipping.

You can also Calibre to convert any ebook into Mobi format, which is native to Kindle.

Cool!

If I may ask, what was your import fees deposit?

Because I clearly remember mine reducing after I checked my cart 2 weeks later. Yours might have been charged before the reduction and hence the refund.

I was thinking of buying the Infibeam Pi. Now I want the Kindle. How much does it finally cost landed in India (customs, shipping etc all inclusive). I'm looking for the Wi-fi only model.

I stand corrected. My import fees was 65 USD, so no presents for me.

With 65 USD import fees and including the cover, it costs 292 USD. So, I guess with 82 USD it should be 309 USD. Samurai can correct me if I am wrong. The cover costs 59.99 USD BTW. And this is for the basic wifi model, 6"

I got mine from US with a cousin who was flying in. He picked it up in store for $189. So I guess if you know someone who is coming in from US in near future you might as well get it through them.

re: Amazon Kindle - Touch & Tablet Version launched

did not go through to the whole thread - but as of now i just use the kindle app on my android phone - don't believe in owning multiple devices for specific purposes - perhaps when a tablet comes with kindle ink screen (or whatever they call it), i will get that. I hear notion ink adam is an android tablet with a kindle like screen option - its home grown too! so why not :-)

I know one can root nook. notion ink runs on android. I have a question. from the gurus of android, and the hardware of these devices, is it possible to use these devices as a computer monitor. Or are there e-ink computer monitors? I am inclined to try one since the glare seems to bother me now. I don't need video, or any graphic intensive work, and I can work with monochrome screen. Can these devices work as a second screen to my laptop (VNC etc)?

Given the slow refresh rates, you probably do not want an e-ink screen as a monitor. I like the idea of a trans-reflective display on the Adam. Why not add a wireless keyboard and make it into a PC that can do basic stuff?

Probably I could, as long as I can find an emulator that my client can approve for working. If it was windows there would be no problem.

in the same note, what are other e-ink,reflective/transreflective options?

If you want to spend money and do a little DIY, grab the screen from here:

Pixel Qi display

Get a compatible netbook from ebay and change the display. Here's how

How-to: install Pixel Qi's 3Qi display on your netbook (and why it's worth it) -- Engadget

If you are seriously bothered about glare, this could be the way for you.
