Updated my ipad to 4.2.1 . Frankly creating folders and multi tasking is hardly revoulationary.Something that should have been there right from the start.

GPS does not lock without the sim card, direction though work if you try to route between point A to B. Hence the earlier confusion.

Jags,

I'm not sure this is entirely correct. (or is it some OSv4 bug / "feature"?)

GPS should be able to lock without a sim card / internet connection -- it will just take a LONG time (for the first lock - ie cold start).

Go out to an OPEN area -- no buildings or trees around / overhead to block the satellites. Turn on GPS and open up a program that uses it (eg. maps). Wait for about 10-15 mins. The device will download the GPS Almanac from the satellites itself.

This almanac has the up-to-date info of all the satellite positions and is what helps get an accurate lock.
(Typically this info is downloaded over your internet connection - but it can also be got from the satellites themselves - it just takes a lot longer)

Hopefully after this, your next start (hot start) will be faster, as it already has this data.
The almanac data might expire after a while, needing a repeat of the process -- im not sure about if / how often this happens.

You are asking this question in a thread where only the apple fans bother to reply?

What is the intention of your purchase?

To fill the void I am feeling currently in-between a cell phone and a laptop.

According to a new survey, Women prefer Apple & Men - Android.

Apple hasn't committed itself to the Indian market so far, Android is the way to go.

Interesting news. And who would be placing that bulk orders? I havent heard of any organization distributing it yet to its employees. In a company I know, they recently placed a bulk order of 500 pieces for their staff, but the order is made in the US.

The way i see it :

iPad

+ Bigger screen
+ Simple interface (good for non-tech friendly)
+ Reliable software / OS
+ If you don't feel restricted by the limitations of apple devices, it works great.
+ Tons of well polished and awesome apps for the ipad (expect higher app prices though!)

- Severe limitations, if say you want to download a file and then send it to your laptop later.
- Can't natively play divx etc videos or even simple AVIs. (VLC fixes this, but who knows if / when its gonna get pulled from the store).
- No flash (gets irritating - crippled web experience)
- Bulky (its surprisingly heavy, and not easy to carry around unless you get a case etc)
- Scroll fast and you will see checkerboard, even on text-only sites.

Galaxy Tab

+ Back button and Menu button make browsing MUCH easier (IMO)
+ Choice of several browsers (downloadable via market)
+ Phone functionality
+ Front facing camera
+ Screen isn't as big, but resolution and usability is almost the same. More carryable/portable.
+ Flash
+ Less likely to see checkerboard when browsing / scrolling.
+ DLNA support (if you have a compatible TV etc)
+ Can natively play almost any damn video format you give it. No transcoding required.

- Will be outdated very soon (as opposed to more spaced out HW upgrades with apple)
- Not as many "made for tablet" apps as the ipad has (yet)
- Might end up waiting a long time for a gingerbread update (ugh, samsung!)
- Android OS is not as rock-solid as iOS yet, may need a reboot about twice as often as the ipad.

I had an ipad for a week -- got really bored of it. Also found it a little too big and heavy, even during a completely in-house usage.
Saw the galaxy tab last week at croma, it was quick, a really nice size, and it would be my pick between the two.

I also feel really restricted by apple stuff. No flash seems like not such a big deal, but when youre using the ipad for a "magical browsing experience" its just damn irritating to not be able to see content on certain sites.
Add to that i couldn't even download a mp3 from mediafire etc while my computer was off (wanted to download and then send it to my computer later). Even my android cellphone can do that!
