I think I will chose based on hardware, and the Galaxy S has a slight advantage

My Nokia 6265 stopped running Java apps yesterday. its dying slowly. I guess I will need to buy a new phone soon.
With no Nexus S in market currently, my options are Galaxy S or Desire HD. Wondering what to use!

I don't think you'd go wrong with either of them, but then I'd prefer Desire over HD because of the dev support and the slightly better processing speed at 1Ghz. And, you can run custom ROMs with 2.3 on Galaxy S, I am running 2.3.1 on my phone right now :).

India to get Nexus S with Super Clear LCD in early Feb

Its official, now with Galaxy S discontinued and Nexus S shipping with SLCD,India has no phone options with AMOLED screens:Frustrati

The Desire suddenly seems super VfM

Are you getting a galaxy s in the market? most dealers I have contacted are all out of stock. Hardware wise they both match up. Nexus S has a flash with the camera as its biggest advantage over galaxy as far as hardware is concerned. But the rumor on the net that nexus S will come with S LCD screen in India is surely a let down.

App name - Photaf 3D Panorama
Free/Charge - Free
What it does - Shoots panoramas, even 360* views.
How it performs (your rating) - Very good. Wish it could save the panoramas in higher resolution (considering the Xperia X10i has a 8MP camera, the final output is nothing to write home about).

A sample photo

Attachment 473265

But this photo doesn't looks like a panoramic one. For a viewer, it looks like that it's shot in the widescreen(widearea) mode.

Tanveer, go with the Galaxy S The Nexus like you said does have poor hardware compared to Galaxy (No FM radio either) Also No SD card option. Besides being in India you are not dependent on Operators for firmware upgrades as in US & UK.

Btw knowing you, why not the N900? Its for $349 on Amazon.

Ya. I was told by a local shop person as Galaxy S has been stopped price for Tab have come down.

Also has any one used HTC wildfire is display really too bad?

The HTC wildfire has the lowest display resolution for a phone having a 3.2" display, many softwares and games are not supported because of the resolution.

When I was in the US, I was not sure whether I will switch to GSM.
Even now, I do not feel very comfortable with Symbian, and I really do not know where is Nokia going with Linux Based OS.

At around 24-25K the Galaxy S will be a good deal, right?

Galaxy S isnt available with bill and warranty anymore. Its available in grey at Ghaffar (which you wont take) and costs Rs. 23.2K.

The screen seems good enough as per this 'review'

Mobile-review.com Spillikins #89. Motorola Kissing Russia Goodbye. The End of the Legend

Okay, lemme check in Noida.
How about HTC Desire HD? Is it good enough? Though on paper Galaxy S looks to be the winner, esp with GPU bit in processor.

Guys need some help here. After Froyo upgrade my phone is becoming really laggy and need to power off time to time when the phone becomes really slow. And even have to remove the battery when it stops responding and this also is happening very frequently now. I want to re-install the OS. How is it possible? Can someone tell me the steps?

Just 24 hours have passed since I started using it...

First charge lasted only some 10 hours. Second charging seems to return more battery time, now I am on the 18th hour since disconnect and battery status says 35%.

S-LCD surprised me. It is much better than what some reviews say. Yes you cannot see perfect black on it like AMOLED but on normal indoor light and outdoors you will never recognize it.

Installed Opera Mobile, it is much faster than the built in browser.

The speaker sucks - only treble can be heard.

Importing my contacts was not so easy. I finally imported them to my gmail and let my device sync to my gmail account.

Wi-Fi hotspot is a good feature - now I am connected through that.

I don't know whether its only with me but my eyes are paining after a short period of usage always - like 10 -15 minutes. I guess it has got to do with the animations and omni-directional scrolling in apps like google maps. Can't take it anymore. I hope I will get used to it.

Video is kind of jerky (15fps?) and metering messes up when you pan - level fluctuations when you move from frame to frame

Camera is OK

Virtual keyboard is nice, I never thought I can get used to it so soon. You don't need to be precise at all, there will be suggestions and new words are automatically tracked.

Speach recognition rocks. The best I have seen so far and it is a useful feature indeed - when you want to search net etc - rather than a show off kind of feature like it has been always. I tried in my normal way of speaking (mother tongue influence) and in some polished style - it just takes all! (Needs net connection to process your speech)

Face book's touch site sucks :D

Wi-Fi connectivity has no issues. It is so easy to connect. (like someone reported)

Viewing high-res images is really a treat to the eyes - very good color rendering and good contrast. S-LCD is as good as AMOLED in this.

Viewing angle is really impressive - vertical viewing from any angle is just fine. Horizontally, there is some reduction in brightness as you go to either sides.

Overall, I am happy with the device.

I still need to figure out few more things, so will write a more detailed review later.
