Bought the redmi and started using from today morning. Coming from an iPhone I am pleasantly surprised with this phone and given the price I am not complaining at all. Also given all the reviews i've read about this phone I am glad I am not seeing any heating issues.

The UI and resolution are simply superb. I'm loving this phone but for just one glitch, and a major one, the battery. My Screen On Time is just below 5hrs, not for many other phones. And some Chinese appearing around the themes are pardonable.

Which version are you on?

I updated with the ota 45 before I started using. Agree battery is down to 30 percent from full in 6 hours of on and off usage. I haven't seen Chinese except when the firmware was being updated.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Any good entry level Android phone you guys recommend? For my mom who has been using Nokia 1100 for years. I am thinking if I can buy her a smartphone that will easy to use and yet more fun than 1100 (a few months back I checked and there was no hard keyboard Android phone).

Thanks!

Get her a moto e or a lumia 520 , or better , take her to a store and let her pick out her personal favorite. There's too much choice for an entry level smartphone for basic needs. It all boils down to personal preference.

Avoid a Chinese phone, just in case. I like htc due to Sense! They have many in the 10k range.

Moto E. Rock solid phone. My dad has dropped it so many times and it always survives. Plus too smooth and easy to use.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

My wife also looking for new phone, as her trusty E71 is dying fast now.

She's willing to convert to Android and touch. She needs lots of talk time ( <--me ) and the best camera within a budget of 20K. She also wants longevity and reliability: neither of us believe that a phone is a gadget to be changed every year! Or five!

Currently, she is thinking Samsung.

Any suggestions?

Nexus 4 is worth having a look at.

Nobody should be thinking Samsung. lol.

Every single requirement of yours points to one phone. The newly launched HTC Desire 820. It's got the latest of latest Qualcomm snapdragon processor, 13MP front camera and a whooping rear 8MP camera.

Whatever you buy, let it not be a Samsung. You'll be paying a lot more for features that you'd get for less with other brands.

The Redmi Note should be available soon for Rs.9,999. Looks like it might be a good purchase. If not, Moto X all the way (great camera!)!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Well, I got it wrong on the camera: I told her Motorola were not good!

I had thought that Samsung were a safe buy. Maybe that is what I was supposed to think.

Nexus 4, and HTC will be put forward, and Moto X revisited! I don't think we want to play Redmi games on Flipkart.

Thanks, so far, to arunphilip, skumare,Vid6639,hellmet

Somebody told her not Lumia, because of Window. I'm as anti-Microsoft as anyone, but when she gets a new laptop, it will most likely be W8.1, so, for her, it wouldn't be a problem. And I'll be made redundant as tech support for the third time in my life!

Actually you are right. The Moto X has a decent camera but it's priced at 32K. For a flagship phone the camera is not great.

The Moto G has a very average camera as well.

Samsung was a safe but but not anymore. Way too expensive and their bloatware OS over Android just ruins the phone.

The Moto X is the pick from your list but for 32K. The Nexus 4 is now just too old and you get better options.

HTC Desire 820q or the Desire 820 are both excellent options.
