That option is a feature in 5.1, not 5.0.2.

Curiously, is this a standard lollipop option?
Yes, it's a standard Lollipop feature. Hopefully it should vanish automatically if you do not use it for a month, just like the WiFi hotspot toggle.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Experts, need your advice.
The query is regarding Google Play Books app.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab SM-705T and a newly bought Lenovo A6000+.
Now, whenever I buy and download books using the Tab, I am able to read the book offline as well. The same is not possible in the Lenovo. It always asks for data connection to be set to ON.
Why is it not possible to read the book offline since I had downloaded it once?
Please advise.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi,

how can one find out all contacts in google that have recently been merged? My paranoid android phone went berserk on friday night, merging all sorts of contacts. Now even unrolling the contacts list to one month back isnt working since google retains the merger info all the same. Finding any business contact has become hell since the names are no longer the same!!

any ideas?

The merge have only happened on the phone. The Google Contacts in the cloud should ideally remain intact.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Everybody is asking for help today! Here's my request...

My wife's Asus Fonepad-7 has slowed to a crawl. Like several seconds of looking at a blank screen before it does what was asked. Where should we look?

If the straight answer to that is "...for a hands-on Android expert," then that is just what I'm thinking anyway

1. How much RAM is free on phone when this happens ? (Settings->Apps->Running)
2. Does it work better if phone is restarted ?

Guys, I'm having OnePlus One and it is currently on CM 12 which is based on Android version 5.0.2.

I'm unable to change the billing cycle of my wifi under the data usage.

I can change the billing cycle for the mobile data connection, but for wifi, i cannot find the option. Is it same for all who are on Android version 5.x.x across all phones or is it a bug in CM12? Thanks in advance.

Billing cycle for WiFi doesn't make any sense, since you can be using Wifi which is Public (say at a Hotel) or a shared WiFi (say a friend's).

I guess you will have to manually separate the joined contacts! Sorry dunno of a way to do it for all in a go.

Or maybe export the contacts on phone to a .vcf file, delete all and then sync afresh from google. You could check on google first though if the contacts are really in a state (unmerged) you want on your device.

Ha! Of course, it isn't doing it how, but roughly 750Mb used, 250 free. There don't seem to be any very unwanted things running.

She says, no rebooting doesn't seem to help much.

Thats very simple. Remove the accounts from phone. That will clear all the contacts. And then add the accounts again (FB, Gmail, Linked in etc). They should come clean. (I hope I got your problem correctly)

You can try these things in the order:

1. Check if any system update is available, if so then update the system.

2. Update all the installed apps. Also see if any erratic app is running in the background. Sometimes IM apps, online shopping apps or taxi booking service apps also make the phone sluggish so maybe you try to 'force stop' them one by one and observe the effect. 'Greenify' app also can help you here.

3. Try clearing the cache. Settings>Storage>tap on cache. It will prompt if you want to clear the cache, choose ok/yes. Restart the device and see if relief is felt

4. If above step doesn't help then format the cache partition. Try to find out the steps to go into boot menu of your device from where you can format the cache partition.

5. If none of them works then I guess hard resetting/formatting is the last option left for you.

Thank you. That's an exhaustive set of options to go through
