Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I had a pleasant surprise to find a notification of a software update for my htc One m7. This was 189MB and downloaded and installed neatly. I did not expect any updates after the Lollipop update.

I got it on my Nexus 5 a few days ago. A lot of small thoughtful changes like 'Do not disturb' in toggles, drop down for adjusting notifications, alarm and media volume, and also the big one where we can grant specific permissions to apps and they run fine.Battery life also seems a wee-bit better with Doze.

However ever since the update, my phone's clock is off by a minimum of 2 hours everynight, I turned off automatic time update and yet the issue persists. I just turn on airplane mode or restart the phone to fix the issue for now.

I got the OTA update message today morning on my Nexus 5 for Android 6.0. Quite a large file ( around 450MB odd). Will download and update tonight over WiFi at home.

Google Photos
Flickr
Dropbox or the like.

I use flickr to backup all my photos through my Mac and have the app installed on other phones/tabs in the house. Works well.

Google photos is available for both platforms and you could use it to, but there is a limit of 15GB storage. Flicker offers 1 TB in comparison.

Google provides unlimited storage for photos if you restrict the image resolution to 16MP and the videos to 1080p

Google photos where you can choose not to save original size. In reality you dont need the 16mb, 20 mb file which you will never print in your life. Its better to have unlimited google photos for saving your mobile pictures and videos.

Flickr is another option that stores original size. Good thing about flickr is once you reach 1TB simply open another account.
Last but not the least, always have a back up in an hard disk.

I have a lightroom installed, so i simply load all pictures in disk and let lighroom organize and arrange. It eliminates duplicates as well as creates folder by date.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I have a problem with my Zen Sonic 1. My phone keeps beeping every alternate second that i consumed 4kb, 2kb, 8kb data or whatever. This happens even when i am on WiFi. Since, i have a data pack i don't get charged but when my data pack expires i get billed 10p for every beep. It beeps atleast 30 to 40 times in a minute.

Experts on the thread please give your inputs and a solution to this.

It is kind of embarrassing that i am unable to figure out a solution despite being an IT engineer.

I do know what you mean. As a systems manager, I used to advise people who wanted help with phones to go and ask their nearest teenager!

I've got a bit better since Android came my way, but I don't know the answer to your problem. My M4i has various options on a Data Usage page, and it might come under one of them --- but I think it might be a Miui-specific tool

Nexus 5x is the better option of two , mainly because of the fingerprint scanner.

Also Nexus devices are the first to receive OS upgrades and google will update it two more android versions after this one.

Guys!
Moto X play or the Moto X 2nd gen?
Which is the better out of the two?
Both are similarly priced.

Any Moto X play users here? Does the device overheat as people claim?

One of my friends ( Srinivasa ) asked me to post on behalf of him since he had faced the same issue. Pasting it below.

even i was facing this issue with my Redmi2 device...the solution for this is, ask that person to turn off location setting or set it to 'device only' mode...it seems like there is a bug in this OS, even if data is turned off, location service accesses the data connection if it is set to turned on and set to high accuracy.

you may want to post this solution to that person.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

@sgiitk ,It all depends on your requirement. If fingerprint verification, Android
Marshmallow out of the box and a smaller screen size are your preference go
for the nexus 5x else Moto X style is a better choice.
