Having used Nexus 6P and now moved to 5X, 2GB Ram doesn't make a difference in day to day activity. I am not a gamer so can't comment on that. I also got my 5X from eBay, the deal was too sweet to worry on warranty!

In outdoors, both Mi4 and A9 are of same quality. A9's colors are more close to original. In indoors, A9 is better than Mi4. It uses low shutter speeds as it has OIS to capture better pictures.

Regarding Video recording, A9 wins hands down. Mi4 hunts for focus continuosly even when the light is less than ideal. Sound recorded is also inferior. A9's videos of my toddler are nice to watch on TV.

iPhone 5s was better than these two. Mainly because you don't need to fiddle with controls; you can point and shoot and pictures turn to be good.

I find A9's selfie camera better than these two by a good margin.

Camera can't be a deal breaker if you consider A9, though it's far from the best. Regarding battery, A9 lasts a day for my kind of usage while Mi4 used to last 1.5 days.

Thanks a lot. I think camera won't be a deal breaker but you can possibly get a better camera at that price if camera is the priority. I will leave out A9 simply because of the small battery.

Here is a link which shows list of phones with <=5.2" screen, fingerprint scanner and a decent battery. Not many out there apart from the super expensive flagships.

The Mi5 is actually a very good choice from that list, if you can live without expandable memory. Costs 25k, so not very expensive, excellent specs and it's pretty reliable.

Check it out here: http://www.mi.com/in/mi5/

Ya, that's in my list as well.
I have 2 concerns
MIUI - how good/bad is that in terms of reliability and usability?
Camera - Xiaomi made lots of splash about a revolutionary camera but now it is pretty clear that MI5 is nowhere close to the likes of Galaxy S6/Nexus 5X/LG G4 etc (not considering this year's flagships). I have concerns about how bad it is in indoor light. Does it shoot something which is good enough for facebook ?

MIUI is good. There maybe some random bugs/glitches once a month. I used to reboot my phone every week after that. I moved from MIUI to a CM based roms (Mokee) as I got bored of it.

Mi5 has a great camera from what I've heard. It's comparable to the nexus 5 from what I've seen.

There is no denying that Samsung flagships have the best cameras.

I was in the same boat and chose Nexus 5X over Mi5 because of three main factors - 1. Pure Android is way better than MIUI 2. Phone is less slippery

Folks

My requirement is 2G RAM, 16 GB internal memory , 4G connection and Dual SIM. Keeping in mind the budget, can you suggest me the best smartphone having these features. I am not very particular about the front camera specs.

Lenovo A6000+ is a good option. I have been using it for more than one year. No issues so far. Please go through YouTube reviews also. The reviews are positive as well.

You get both the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime(Exact same specs as your requirements) and the Coolpad Note 3 Lite(3Gb/Fingerprint sensor). My parents are using these phones and I must say the 'Lite' is a very good phone for the price. YMMV

Folks,

Have decided to buy redmi note 3 for my wife. I was on the lookout for 32gb version but since its very difficult to get hold off thought of uging the 16gb version. Wanted to check on couple of things

1. Is the memory expandable in the 16gb version?
2. Are there any other differences esp with regards to tech specs between the 16gb and the 32 gb versions?
3. How much time does it take to get the delivery of the phone through the mi site as now i dont see it available in amazon? Is it being sold in any shops so that i can go directly and buy?

TIA

1. Memory is expandable but it has hybrid dual sim slot. So you can either use 2 sim cards, or 1 sim card and 1 micro sd card. So, if you plan on using 2 sim cards in the phone, you won't be able to expand the memory.

2. 16GB version comes with 2GB RAM, 32 GB version comes with 3 GB RAM. REst of the specs are identical.

3. No idea if it is being sold in shops. Last night i saw flipkart had some stock of 32GB version in silver and gold, but it ran out soon after. They seem to replenishing from time to time but it also runs out soon so you have to check regularly to get your hands on one.

Select the model based on your space requirements. 2gb vs 3gb ram does not seem to be offering much of a performance boost in the real world usage. OTOH, if you store lots of photos/videos, and are a heavy social media user, you would be better off picking up the 32gb one.

32gb was on open sale yesterday on Amazon. They keep adding stocks every few days, so keep checking. 16gb is available easily, I can see Silver/Dark grey in stock even now.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

My final shortlist for phones without gigantic screens (<=5.2"), decent battery, good camera and fingerprint scanner and budget of 25K

Nexus 5X 32 GB
MI 5
Honor 7
Galaxy S6

Pros and Cons of each
Nexus 5X (20K from ebay)
Pros: Great camera, stock android, timely updates.
Cons: Plasticky cheap build, 2GB RAM might be an issue in the future

Honor 7 - (19K from ebay)
Pros: Great metal unibody build, decent camera, good battery life
Cons: bad GPU (doesn't matter to me as I am not into games), updates and custom UI

MI5 (25K)
Pros: Powerful processor/chipset, great allrounder with no apparent weakness
Cons:Camera is decent but not great, custom MIUI??

Galaxy S6 (26K from ebay).
Pros: Superb camera, QHD screen, feature rich
Cons: battery life, not a fan of TouchWiz.

Considering the price and the fact that I consider good battery life as a top priority, I am tilting more towards Honor 7. Anyone has experience with Huawei/Honor UI? How are they with the updates?

Moto Z has been launched with great specs but as with Motorola nowadays, they only make gigantic phones <>=5.5"). So, that rules out the Moto Z for me. Upcoming Oneplus 3 is also 5.5". I don't see any upcoming 5" phone which meets my requirements. Or is there anything coming? So, I don't see any point in waiting further. The only one I know of is the ZUK Z2 but I am not sure when it is going to be launched in India

I would suggest waiting for Lenovo ZUK Z2.At 5 inch size,SD 820, 4Gig RAM, 3500Mah Battery, seems like a Godsend for people like me and you who want a small sized phone.

I am waiting for it to launch in India.

If you are in urgent need for a phone, then Mi5 is the best among the options. Nexus 5x battery is pathetic and i see 2GB as a bottleneck in an year or so.
