Look at Samsung. The note 8 is a USD 1000 device selling for 67k in India. But Google and apple are charging us quite a bit more than their US prices.

If you go to a big retailer , you can get note 8 for 65k to 66k . I got note 8 on 21st sept for 66k along with hdfc cashback and free wireless charger. :D

I'm using the foso black case for my Mi 5 and dad's Redmi note 4 .
Both cases are excellent . I will do the same for my Mi max 2 .

Airtel prepaid supposed-to-be-4g-hah-hah...

Buying a Gb every 27 days which I never use (but still get upset if I forget to renew in time to carry forward the balance) seems expensive. I just discovered the Rs.992 10Gb, validity 1 year update.

That comes to about Rs73 per "Airtel" month (otherwise known as the mean lunar month!) and I can forget about it probably until next October, when I will probably still have a balance.

Will have to see if I am right with my usage prediction, but it is going to be a long time before I find I have no mobile data because I forgot.

(I do the same with voice: I don't use the phone much, and a Rs.1000 update can last me 6 months or more. I even sneak in few international minutes!)

Heard this has stereo speakers! Could you happen to test the speakers?

Also, does it have hybrid slot or dedicated SD card slot?

Here's mine.

No photos of the device but I'm really really really happy esp given the price. The red is indeed very eye catching and gets attention everywhere I go. Everyone goes - that's a really fancy red case, followed by "Ooh that's a really nice phone"

My impressions are here (copied from my blog).

This quick post summarises the rationale for my decision and should hopefully help others decide because HTC U11 is the flagship no one's buying in India. That's a shame:

The camera is truly outstanding. I will attach some sample shots at the end of the post. I think if there's one camera (besides the i8) that probably beats it, is the S8. But it's really really close. My decision criteria is focusing in low light, on the fly, not beautiful landscapes. That's just the kind of photos I shoot, especially of my 6 year old son. I found S8 > i7 ~ Pixel >> S7 > G6. This is as good if not better. It truly deserves the 90 rating by DxoMark.

The specifications are outstanding. This phone at 43.5k gave me the specs (6 GB RAM, 128 GB ROM) at par with S8+. S8 at 54 had 4/64!! This has Quick Charge 3 vs 2 for S8. QC3 really works.

Edge Sense is brilliant for me as a biker and even otherwise when you want to shoot in a cinch. Just squeeze the lower half of the phone and the camera opens up. Another squeeze and you've shot a photo! That's super quick and thoughtful product design.

The speakers are fairly good either for conference calls or especially for music.

The uSonic headphones are a miss of sorts. They're pretty good but they don't fit as nicely in your ear as many IEMs hence whatever noise cancellation it achieves is lost when the ear sealing is lost to if one is walking. They should've simply aped the Bose earbud design to the extent possible.

The back is truly beautiful. I think it's unbreakable but like all my phones, I used it only after a case was put.

Where it misses out but doesn't matter to me:
Edge screen: S8 screen is beautiful, no doubt. But as a forever kludge, I am worried it'll be easier to break due to the exposed edges.

Bezel less screen. That's a miss I'm willing to live without, given the savings.

IP68: that's fine. I don't intend to expose my phone to water ever. It's good knowing it has IP67, same as my 2011 Motorola Defy.

My photography comparison across phones has already been posted earlier.

I'm using the 399 recharge. It offers 1G/day, works for 84 days and gives you unlimited calls nationwide (but no texts). Curious why you didn't consider this one?

Hi, phamilyman. I'm glad you are so happy with your new phone, especially the photo quality.

Most of my life is spent at home, so even when I do use the phone rather than the computer for communications/internet, the broadband wifi is the provider. Actually, we chopped Rs.1k off our bill for that by reversing the regular Airtel upselling to which my wife had fallen victim. And we are still using around 50% of the data. It is just the two of us, we don't download much, watch youtube stuff at modest definitions (No HD screen) and my internet life is mostly forums.

That does not leave much data requirement for the phone. I don't watch movies anyway, and certainly wouldn't want to use the phone for that. 10Gb a day is more than we use on the home broadband! That package would cost Rs.1733 per year. Oh, I forgot to mention that I don't use the Airtel SIM for calling/SMS.

Financially, 500Mb/27-days/98Rs might even be the best deal for me! But I prioritised validity. I call it Rs1,000 luxury spending on simply having data available for a whole year without having to think about it.

This has been a bit long: I hope you are not wishing you never asked! :D

That seems to be a good deal! For a sparse requirement during outdoors, it's an ideal plan! :thumbs up

So I thought. I'd never before noticed that the Airtel account web page has a from/to cost slider, and I had only been seeing a subset of the available plans.

Scrub that. I never was good at numbers, but on a second look I suspected something wrong, and yes, it would be a far worse deal over 365 days!

stupid:

I have both and I clearly prefer the Honor 6x. Excellent dual camera, fast charging though it's not advertised. Both of these are pluses over the K6 Power. Monthly updates is also what surprises me every month on the 6x. So far has been smooth and lag free experience after 6 months of ownership.

Is this running on EMUI 5 on Android N? Surprised to hear 6X has fast charging as none of the reviews mention this. How long does it take to get from 0-30 or 40% charge? Looking to replace my Moto X play and want a decent device that has a good cam.

Thanks for your kind words. I got your perspective as well. Let me ask. Is your phone ever used by your grandkids?

My perspective came from my erstwhile-youtube-addict son - an hour of YouTube kids would consume 500MB per hour easily. Even though now he's strictly forbidden from using the phone, but every now and then, his usage would definitely cross 10GB in a year.

absolutely not. Actually, due to various family, erm... whatevers, I don't see much of the children these days. My wife does sometimes. I have not been able to persuade her of the philosophies of just say no, and no means no. (and yes means yes, of course). Well, we all have different family dynamics. If I had my own child, I'd guess that my route to keep their hands off my devices would mean them having their device. My own child, maybe... but others, no. Especially when they have got old enough to download stuff.

Anyway: you have a kid, and I don't. For that, and probably many other reasons, our home broadband and mobile data requirements almost certainly vary considerably.

Wouldn't be surprised if mine is half that. I do watch Youtube stuff for an hour or three a day, but not on the phone.

So yes, my mobile data needs are modest. I've just set myself up so that I don't get the phone out in the middle of a concert to google some name or check the weather at home and find that the data validity expired... last week. Not until October '18, at least! :uncontrol

My wife's data needs are more complex, because she has two devices. I have given up using a tablet and just keep one. She does watch movies mobile, and obviously the tablet is better. She also likes to keep Whatsapp off her phone so she is simply not there to that particular avenue of communication unless she wants to be. She has a postpaid phone (and she uses it more than enough to warrant it :Frustrati ) and has tried hot-spotting the data allowance to the tablet. But she says it is not reliable.

I have ordered RN4 on flipkart, just minutes before the sale was to end. :thumbs up

Now, the wait begins. The device is for my sister, who lost her RN3 on Mumbai Local. She had NOT set the backup n sync n lost loads of pictures and other media.

Where can we get the RN3 made unusable with IMEI#? The police complaint copy is there with us.

I am not sure of the return policy.

I raised a complaint with FK stating the issue with the device and rejected their replacement. Now they are just buying time. On 4th I was told to try once again with factory data rest + MIUI update. If it still doesn't work, raise a return again. I did that the same day. Obviously it did not work. Raised a return again same day and yesterday they called again saying no other customer has complained blah blah.

I just told them I do not care what other customers did or did not and that I cannot believe they never received any complaint on this issue since Vodafone 4G band 1 & 41 are in use in many states. If she can show me 1 person who is able to use Vodafone 4G near me, I will accept the phone as is, more so when I sent them the acknowledgement from the manufacturer (chat with Mi customer care) which clearly states the bands will not be supported. She had no answer.

She has now scheduled a technician visit.

All this while they had no answer when I asked them if they tried to get in touch with the manufacturer about the issue.

EDIT: Point in my favor is that their spec sheet does not specify the bands the device supports, which I am using against them.

Has stereo, ear piece & bottom. It is really loud also, but higher volume i felt its really pushing it.

It has hybrid card slot, so you cant use expanded memory while using 2 SIMS. :deadhorse

Sends to me that "stereo", when speakers are just a few inches apart, is a complete nonsense.
