Why dont you try Google Cam on your OP6T? Here is a link, its a straight forward install. https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/a..._test-OP6T.apk

I've done my browsing and have narrowed it down to the Motorola One Power and the Samsung J8/On8. The 2 are very different when it comes to processing and the OS but I listed the Samsung only because its in the 15k range and a dependable brand. Few who use the phone have given a very positive feedback about the Samsung phone but I'm not sure about the Motorola is these days as my last Motorola was a Moto X play bought years ago and its still holding up without skipping a beat in its performance.

Please suggest which to pick as I need it for very basic purposes.
You can buy the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 6GB variant. Or if you can wait for 1 month, you will get Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2

For that price, you may also consider -
# Nokia 6.1 Plus
# Honor 7X
# Mi A2

And if you can stretch a bit more, Poco F1 would be my choice.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Pick up the Honor 8X or the Xiaomi Poco F1.
As an everyday phone you just cannot go wrong with the 8X. Very premium looking device with above average screen, smooth everyday performance and superb battery life. The camera should be good too but I would not know since I do not click pictures using my phones. Comes in both 4 gb and 6 gb flavors depending upon your pocket. Between 15xxx to 18xxx.
If you willing to go up to 21K than the Poco F1 should also not disappoint you. Completely lag free user experience with top of the line hardware but otherwise a very budget looking device with average screen.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Ditched my old (and cracked) Samsung S7 Edge and replaced it with a Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-huaweimate20pro639inch8gb128gbsmartphoneemeraldgreen751986.jpg

My requirements were simple - the phone needs to be fast, good screen & camera & long lasting battery. The Huawei ticked all the boxes, except that it was priced a bit higher than I initially expected.

I pre-booked the phone and I got a Huawei smartwatch (Watch GT), a Wireless charger and 6 months VIP service along with damage protection complimentary.

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-30040780b.jpg

The short review is as below:

+ Excellent screen
+ Amazing camera
+ In-screen fingerprint works very well
+ 3D face recognition phone unlock is very quick
+ Very good battery life (lasts 2 days easily with medium to heavy use)
+ Very well built and feels premium
+ 40W charger can charge the massive battery in no time (0% to 70% in 30 minutes)
+ Some useful gimmicks like knocking on the screen with your knuckle to take a screenshot

- Brand image (I cannot recollect the number of people who have asked me why I spent this much on a Chinese brand)
- UI is glitchy (nothing bothersome, but needs a wee bit more polishing)
- Some useless gimmicks like reverse charging

I have attached some night shots from the phone camera. While I am no photography expert and all these pics were taken in darkness with Auto settings and in Night mode, I believe they have come out really well -

Correct me if I am wrong, don't the Honor Phones have a very heavy skin on top? Last time I checked, they looked a bit odd.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

On the contrary, their skin though heavy and busy is quite fluid and mostly lag free. Same for Xiaomi, which is running a specific skin for the Poco F1.
They all have skins barring the Pixels, they all are heavy and resource hogging, just that some do it better than the other.
As long as your expectation is in line with your budget you shall do just fine.

EMUI is way better than stock android UI when it comes to usability. It comes with some bloatware and games, but they let you uninstall most of them. The only bloat that you cannot uninstall are those useless google apps.

My wife's Honor 9 Lite is fast and fluid with just 3GB RAM in it.

The 9 Lite is stuck with the 8.0 it originally came with. Security updates arrive regularly but not as fast as my Nokia 7 plus.

My Honor 10 has been updated to. 8.1, shows similar for EMUI as well.

Have seen few websites claiming that this maybe updated to Android P, but unsure about when.

@raj - That is an awesome phone man.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Huawei has come a long long way from the days of its co-branded feature phones. I say this because of its newest entry into the mobile phone world - the Huawei Mate20 Pro. Priced at ₹69,990/-, the phone features a 3D depth sensing Leica developed triple camera, 4200 mAh battery and 6GB-128 GB memory. When flagship killers are providing unparalleled user experience at sub 40K price points, this is indeed an interesting launch.

Just frustrating is the lack of control you have that thing.
LOL, and this is just the beginning. Wait till you find out even simpler things that the phone just can't do. iPhones are best suited to persons already in Apple universy (macs and such), or users who have no need of anything specific. If you veer anywhere beyond basics, you will find yourself severely limited in iPhone. I sold my iPhone after struggling for 1.5 years, and except the sadness of eating up depreciation, I have all the happiness of finding freedom in android.

Best to leave the iPhone as it is, because more you want it to do stuff, more you will realize its limitations and increase your frustrations.

I figure, it would be good for people who use pretty much the stock features of a phone i.e. calls, messages, camera, maps, email, whatsapp and browsing. My wife is in the same boat.

What irritated me so much was, I cannot have more than 4 icons on the drawer, cannot even change the size of it.

I would call the OP Customer care here. The battery replacement is listed at $12+labour+taxes - Might give that a go.

The only skin that has seemed comparable to stock Android to me is of the OP Devices. The last I saw an Honor phone was some time back and did not like it at all. In fact, one of the reasons in not getting the otherwise good Galaxy Note/S9+ was the software integration - it almost feels cartoon(ish).

Of late, I get pop ups which open the play store, when I click links from my Firefox. If I go fast enough, some random app would be installed. Example is, when I enter ZIP code on tbhp classifieds. Or even from Nikon's India site. The OS is Samsung's stock 8.0.0 on Galaxy A8+.

What could be the reason?
