GCam unquestionably provides the far superior HDR performance with very realistic colors and sharpness. It has been 2 years since I used stock camera on any of the phones.

Thanks for the response. Can you please help me to understand whats GCAM means? Its any app on play store?

It's Google camera, found only on the Pixel phones but the apk has been ported to make it work with other phones too. You will find it on xda developers forum.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

After the horrific tragedy that was meted out to Dr Priyanka Reddy, my Hyderabadi relatives told me about an app launched by Hyderabad Police for ladies, elderly and differently abled.
It is called Hawk Eye.
It is a Hyderabad IT Police initiative.

I wish other states and cities make a similar app specific for those cities.

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a replacement for my dad's Moto X Play. My budget is around 16k. A key requirment is that the phone wouldn't be handled in a delicate manner so it shouldn't be fraglie (want to avoid glass back ones). I see on Flipkart, poco f1 128gb variant is selling for 15k plus additional hdfc discount.
Is it a good buy?

Samsung M30s is another good option, got one for my dad (upgraded from Moto G5) and he is very happy with it.

Having a good protection case always helps, so got him TheGiftKart Special Edition Neo-Hybrid Dual Layer Armor Back Case from Amazon and it's pretty much rugged cover.

It is easy to make an app, or even set up an emergency phone line, but it is the people (the police) on the other end that have to respond. Hope you are not naive enough to believe that the app will somehow change things.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

There is a "108" app. Or, rather, apps, as I think it is done on a state basis. Primarily for ambulance, but the Tamil-Nadu app seems to be for police too.

Reporting/calling via app is the best way to go, as transmission of fairly accurate position should be easy.

Oh yes, our govt agencies specially are great at making apps because it is the cool thing to do but never update the app or even make improvements.
Your point is true, there should be active response from the people manning the app for it to truly work to its desired potential.
All I hope is that if the app is being attended to and can save lives, then the app has worked as intended.

Phone under 15K with better vibration motors

I am looking for a phone with decent specs under 15K. Primary requirement along with good call quality is the intensity of the vibration motor. With my current Assu zenfone max pro m1 i have many of ocassions where i could not notice the call in crowded areas where ringtone even at max volume cannot be heard. Have to rely solely on haptic feedback

While this may seem insensitive with the timing, I want to look for a new phone.
This might be too late but my wife's OnePlus 3 faced the same issue. It refused to wake up. Holding Power & Volume button for 10-20 seconds worked. We sold the phone after that but got a better price since it was running.

Cheers,

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Any LG V40 users here ? Need a suggestion regarding screen protector for my phone which covers the entire screen. I have used 3 tempered glass and 1 plastic screen protector. Nothing seems to be perfectly covering the curved display. The phone was dropped from my lap on the concrete road with face down and even though the display has tempered glass, small portion of the top display got chipped and the protector developed crack . I'm fed up buying screen protectors.

Android 10 (V4.08B) update is now available for NOKIA 7.1 ( I have updated few hours back)

What's new in this update:

- Dark mode , take it easy on your eyes

- Smart reply: Save more time with recommended actions

- Gesture navigation: get around with a swipe and a pull

- Additional controls for privacy and location

- Google security patch (2019-11)

+

The dark mode seems nice.!

Great. Awaiting for Xiomi A3. Being a Android one phone, we expected it to come earlier. Anyone who owns the same phone please do tag me as and when you have an update.

I'd recommend the Nokia 8.1 4GB. The UI will be very similar to his old phone, so he'll be at ease. Build quality is nice since it's of steel.

If you are willing to go the refurbished route, OnePlus 5 8GB at 18k - 2gud.com Link
Yes, it may seem overpriced, but I personally wouldn't mind the premium. Using my OP3 for over 3.5 years now without any screenguard or armour case.

Interestingly, OP3T is available at 7.5k too on that site. Seems lucrative even if you may not get an official OP Charger.

Some online users are reporting cell reception issues with the Samsung M30s. So be a bit cautious or do a hands-on store comparison before the purchase.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I wanted a brand new one so refurbished was out of question. The M30s looked good too but eventually decided to go for POCO F1 (steel blue, 128GB variant). Got a discount of 1k. The landing price was 13,999 which is quite reasonable. My dad has used it for few days now and he's liking it a lot especially the battery life and the lag free performance.
