Thanks Jaggu and Rehan. I tried removing the sim and using it in another phone. The GPRS worked all right. I went back to Idea and got a fresh set of configurations from the, but nothing seemed to work. Finally on an android forum I found a recommendation for tweakker, a site at Tweakker.com, downloaded their settings and tried it out. I'm delighted to report all is well now, and the GPRS is working just like before.

Defy or Spice - MI410 - Dilemma

I am looking at buying an android phone, my Usage is:

1) 30 to 40 calls a day (Incomming & outgoing put together) averaging 3 to 4 mins each = Average daily talk time = 120 Mins

2) Music/Videos/Games = 1 to 2 hrs a day

3) Internet = Googling for Info/Checking personal mails = 2 to 3 hrs a day = on GPRS/3G or free Wifi if available.

4) Occasionally editing word or excel docs, view pdf files.

4) Take photos & videos on occasions.

5) Install software from android market for navigation/utility/timepass.

Considering Defy because it is:

1) Waterprooof - I have had to replace an earlier mototola touchscreen phone because of damage due to rain/sweat.

2) Dustproof/Scratch proof/Rugged= I am not very careful with phones, & it needs to survive occasional handling by my 2 year old daughter.

3) Reliable brand & updates available in the android community

4) Available for for 15949 rs @ letsbuy with icicilb coupon code (I have never bought anything online, do i get 1200 rs off by just typing this code on
the letsbuy site.)

Considering Spice MI 410 because it has got:

1) 1GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon = Doc editing (word & excel) could actually work, whereas it might struggle on the TI OMAP3610 800 MHz processor on Defy

2) 4.1 inches screen vs 3.7 of the Defy = Could transalate into better browsing/video experience on the spice 410 which also has a better GPU.

3) Secondary VGA Camera For Video Calling, not available on Defy

4) 5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash on both defy & spice, but spice has HDMI out, DIVX & HD video recording

5) Available for for 13999 rs @ Saholic, a spice group venture & at spice hotspot stores.

Thus i am in a dilema

a) Since the mind picks defy (rugged build, reliable brand with updates & support available)
b) Heart picks Spice 410, since its got a bigger screen, better processor & appears to be ready for the future (HDMI, HD recording, Secondary video)

Please advice.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

After being a mute reader of this thread for close to a month and trusting my very knowledgeble and intelligent friends, I went ahead and bought Moto Defy on 6th June through COD mode. From that day onwards, not a single hour went by without me checking the status of the delivery. As of now, the phone is still waiting for someone to attend to it and put it on the next truck or flight to Hyderabad from Mahipalpur. I would like to ask proud defy owners some questions while I keep waiting to lay my hands on the new toy I am going to get.
1. Those who bought it from letsbuy.com, what is the average delivery time?
2. Is Aramex a good courier company. I am reading all frightening stories on net.
3. What are the precautions I need to take to make sure before I pay the COD
4. Is the new Defy coming with Froyo Update?

This is my biggest buy in internet and I am little worried..I hope everything will be fine.

1. SUV got it in <48 hours. I and another friend got it in 5 odd days (incl a weekend)
2. Oh its okay - you will get it just fine.
3. Nothing. The motorola box should be unmolested/undamaged. otherwise nothing
4. The update was available a while back and has been pulled back. the buzz is that it may re-release soon. You needn't worry on this account at least!

You need a simpler Nokia phone. A typical android won't last that long!

.::Breaking::. HTC Desire now for 15,000 ??

Check here

HTC Desire A8181 | HTC Mobile Phones | Saholic.com

for starters, saholic is the e-ecommerce venture by Spice mobiles. I would say, this is a deal of the year, for sure. Waiting for the same to get reflected into flipkart/ letsbuy and I would jump.

Abhi

Tried for 2 hours to upgrade to Froyo. The flash failed all the time. Might have something to do with using windows 7.
Will try again on XP.

read somewhere that the desire is kind of discontinued now (i.e company is not producing them anymore)

but 15k is too good a price for a 1ghz monster. just hope it'll be new in the box and not refurbished ones

What failed?

Flashing? or OTA update?

Otherwise if in doubt, wait for the OTA update!

The Flashing guide is here: [HOW TO] Debranding /Installing different/recovering bricked firmware on your Defy - xda-developers and the SEA15 ROM is here: [Flash SBF] OFFICIAL RELEASE | Android Froyo 2.2.2 [SOUTH EAST ASIA + INDIA] - xda-developers

What are you trying to upgrade - to Froyo or to GB? Because with SEA15 ROM, sometimes people have to flash the other Nordic Froyo ROM for GB to work.

Charge it to 100% first, I hope. Right?

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Finally rooted my GalaxyS and installed Darky's Rom 10.1 on it, and its simply the best thing that's happened to the SGS. Its very very snappy, compared to the laggy stock firmware. Will update on the batt life and any issues, once i use it for a few days!

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

spice m410 has a killer pricing. just 13500 for a monster 1gz 4.1 inch screen is the best deal.
another best one mentioned is HTC A8181.

and i dont think they are refurbished. its mentioned that it comes with 12 months manufacturers warranty.

dont know where the android market is heading, but anyways we have all reasons to rejoy

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

@phamilyman (and other Titanium users) - I'm about to flash a Custom ROM (Ace Villain GB) on my SGA. I've taken a complete backup on Titannium. I'm attaching the screenshot. Please tell me if this is fine or something else needs to be done?

Also, I need to take out my SIM and SD card during the flashing right? (I did that last time while updating to Froyo's latest release).

P.S. Anybody got a solution to my telephony display issue?
