One major check of acceptance is whether Cyanogenmod have a custom ROM. I hear that they now have one for the Defy.

Has anyone upgraded to 2.3.4? I did and getting close to 2700~3000 quadrant scores. For those who did upgrade, how do you find the improvement in terms of speed? Did you do a quadrant benchmark?

CMStats says its just short of 20k users (started exactly 2 months ago). Its unofficial but by the end of the month, it should be an "officially" supported phone.

So if you wait a bit, it should be a perfectly stable regular GB phone.

Infact, IMNSHO the beta5.1 was ultrastable. Now everything works (its RC0 currently) except they've screwed up the proximity sensor in the latest versions. Otherwise, A-GPS even in a moving car takes about 5-10s for full lock.

Scenario 2: I created the laptop as Wifi Access Point with Adhoc connection. Then the mobile is connected directly to the laptop, but it says that "obtaining ip address.." then disconnects. I used Shared with WEP authentication and Adhoc connection selected.

Scenario 3: Now I enabled WiFi Hotspot in mobile and laptop connects to mobile phone directly. When I open WiFi explorer from mobile, it displays "wifi status" as red.

Any suggestions ?

My GPS never locks on. Is it because of the stupendously low GPRS data transfer speeds?

Thanks for the links.

I have tried this but not working. Are you connecting your phone to the computer through wifi home network or directly to the computer through adhoc connection ?

or maybe because you are indoors?

I cannot diagnose/help you over the net just like this - you need to be more regular in gurgaon meets. aise kaise bataun bhai.

Have you applied this GPS Fix for asia? That should do it. Minor detail I forgot

Its an update which can only be flashed via CWM (i.e rooted phones). Unrooted phones don't exist in my consciousness!

PS: Other folks - the above GPS fix applies for all phones. its meant for the HTC HD2 and I'm using it on the defy. so there.

gopi garu - try droidsshd if you have any geekish tendencies. keeps things safe too. Comes preinstalled on the CM7 Defy distribution so I don't know how you can get it otherwise. needs root IIRC.

Yes, it could be. I have noticed that GPS locks takes longer when my data speed is too low. Blame is on Airtel!

BTW folks, I've gone Cyanogen. Installed the latest stable build of CM7 yesterday night, restored some apps and data. Rooting and installing CM7 was a breeze. No issues at all!
