re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

^^ Somehow the Brut Maps navigation is not working for me. It only works for the map now. This was strange as I had used the Brut Maps navigation for my trip to Tirupati from Hyderabad.
Any trouble shooting recommendations?
Though I have uninstalled it and try to re-install and see if it works.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

All ya Blackberry integrated physical QWERT keyboard fans willing to join Android Bangdwagon, want to retain the experience, and want a very VFM - Fast - Full Featured Android..

Here is an offer which is just too good..

Samsung Galaxy Pro B7510 at Rs 7,499 (apply rcomlb1 discount code to get Rs 1,000 Discount from the listed price of Rs 8,499) http://www.letsbuy.com/samsung-galaxy-pro-b7510-p-14864

Integrated physical QWERT Keyboard, 2.8" Capacitive Touch Screen, 800 Mhz Processor, 3 MP Cam, Android 2.2, 3G HSDPA, AGPS, Bluetooth 3.0, FM Radio, Microsoft Exchange with Activesync..

Some apps may not work (not too sure about this) due to odd LQVGA 320 x 240 resolution but Just Rs 7,499 for an Android with all the above..

Samsung Official Product Page Business with a dash of fun - Galaxy Pro B7510 - Smartphone - Mobile Phone | SAMSUNG

Ya, somebody please post the latest links for offline navigation (with/without voice) - which works well.

I tried Sygic, Aura, Brut (havent installed yet- still reading!)
with sygic - FCing (without any message on screen)
Aura - (asks for connection, and says resources are old, and after 57MB d/l still doesnt work)
Brut - couldnt get a complete link ( like, I wish to start installation from scratch- clean slate)

(Sygic and Aura - dkaile, thanks for the links - but can you please give latest links/procedure?)

(I have the Maps/res/2577 and all folders - for Sygic, but the app FCs! :( .)

Ace, installing the brut google maps hack is the easiest and best option. You can bid farewell to sygic and aura once you have this running. No need to create folders or anything. In short- Nothing techie to be done, just an install...thats all.

Remove the google maps app your device came with (some handsets like SGS2, Moto Atrix 4G works without uninstalling), and simply install the brut maps.

If you are not able to uninstall GMaps, you can still install this, just look out for 2 google maps icon. How will you know which is the brut one? When you start the brut maps, it usually gives a 'wrong login' message. Ignore the message, as navigation works just fine.

XDA Developers has quite a few pages dedicated to brut hack.

Thanks a lot for that.
Ok, ready to get brut.
but, I am actually posting here after looking at XDA
I got very confused there. like there are 17 updates to the Brut - and they keep referencing so many things.

Can you please do another favor, and point me to the exact link, where you got your Brut from?

(meanwhile I should continue to read on xda too )

You can get it at Rs 18,980 from here Samsung Galaxy S I9000 | Samsung Galaxy S I9000 Pricing, Review and Accessories | IndiaPlaza
It's with 6 month vendor warranty instead of 1 year manufacturer warranty. May be a direct import so the low price.
Something similar to wide difference in Sony TV prices (Sometimes upto 40%) at Ghaffar Market in New Delhi and Official Retail Channels.

This is the one I have. (maps4.6.0.4686-brut-renamed.apk)
in the page [APPMOD][07.11.10] Brut Google Maps 4.6.0.4686-brut17 - xda-developers

This is the renamed version so you can keep your Google Maps original installation intact, while this will show up as another Maps app.

Take Nexus S - almost the same and a fair bit cheaper. You won't miss the microSD with 16GB onboard!

The i9000 (not the lcd or any other model) is available for 19k at shops in mumbai.

I suggested exactly the same thing to someone earlier in the thread, HOWEVER it was pointed out that the Nexus S sold in india has always had a LCD screen, not an AMOLED like the international version, or the i9000 Galaxy S in india. Thats a major difference worth noting.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Okay, I reinstalled the Brut Maps with the install file that I had previously and now the Navigation is working fine. Satellite fix is also quick.
Edit: i also cleared all cache and data and uninstalled official Gmaps update.

And I have no updated it since I downloaded it. The link you gave looks to be the recent version.
Any feature updates ? The screenshot at XDA looks like a 3D version.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

There are few more differences and one noteable as suggested by Rehaan is the LCD and AMOLED screens.

1. Video recording on the Nexus is WVGA@30fps while on the I9000 it is 720P@30fps.
2. Bluetooth on Nexus is 2.1 while I9000 it is 3.0
3. Oleophobic surface on Nexus while Gorilla Glass display on the I9000
4. I9000 does not have flash while Nexus has LED Flash

For people who have bought the Nexus please suggest if you have the AMOLED Screen or the LCD.

The above details are as per Samsung I9000 Galaxy S vs. Samsung Google Nexus S - GSMArena.com

Still in a Dilema :(
