re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Must have apps for me include the following

Application protection
Appsaver
Go Launcher EX
Polaris Office
SoundHound
TuneinRadio
Cricbuzz
Ringdroid and Team-BHP

I like the application protection app that just gives one added level of security that can be set at application level. Specially mails, gallery and messages.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I am looking for two Android based phones (budget 15K and 10K respectively).
Why Android? Well, it is more 'open' and the 'IN thing' so to say. Nothing else.
The first one would be for me and the second one for my wife.
Features I would look for for the first phone:
1. Battery life of atleast 2 days (MUST)
2. Android 2.3 and above upgradable.(MUST)
3. Offline mode (MUST, since I turn off network at night to save battery, but alarm should work)
4. Ability to sync with Windows based PC, manage phone via PC, call and SMS from PC via phone (through bluetooth).
5. Blue tooth
6. GPS (nice to have)
7. Touchscreen (Nice to have)
8. Stable UI (Nice to have)
9. Allow download and install of apps to SD card (Nice to have)

I would prefer HTC since they are fast on upgrading the OS.

Budget: 15 K (max.)

For phone 2 (wife).
Requirements:
Same as above. In addition:
1. Should be very very sturdy (expect rough use)
2. Good video playback and good screen (my kid might watch movies on it).
3. Supports large SD memory (say 16 GB).
4. Anti-Theft features.

Budget: 10 K

I had shortlisted HTC Wildfire S for myself. Wife prefers Samsung, though I hate those phones.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Surprised no one listed CamScanner. This is a 'must have' app which lets you create high quality scanned Pdfs using your phone camera. This app already saved me from a lot of hassles (of finding a scanner, scanning process) and saved lots of my time.

I use 90% of the apps listed by you and rest are below:

GO Sms Pro (lots of sms customizations + private inbox, if ever i lose my phone, the banking passwords are safe )
Automatic Memory Optimizer (better than task killer, because it tweaks memory usage & android kernel takes care of killing apps, safer)
XDA (a forum for mobile devs)
Weather & Toggle Widget (Gives a HTC sense like Clock with animations)
Simple Calendar Widget (integrates all calendars for birthdays & events)
Opera Mini (really quick browser)
Fontomizer (for samsung Galaxy S font changing)
Friend Cast (Makes it easy to post/share on multiple Social Networks, including google+, FB, Twitter etc)

HERE it is. The link is from AppBrain & similar apk is on Android Market as well. It is a Paid App BTW, but you can find cracked apks littered all around the internet. PM me your email id if you want one

On installation, you need to add widget to home screen and then it downloads a default skin (which doesnt look exactly like HTC sense) but you can then search for more skins in market and download a HTC lookalike. This is by far, the best weather widget I found in market and been using android for more than 2 yrs already!

For the Forecast animations, the app will prompt you to download an addon from the market (this is free) and even a cracked version can take this download from the market (these devs make it easy for the crackers eh)

Guys, any thoughts about this particular phone?
Do you think I could expect a price cut for the HTC IS?

Do we really need a weather application. I have never found a need for such an application. I want applications that will kill services that are running without our knowledge automatically. Or just select the applications that are allowed to run automatically.

Does Motorola Defy(with stock 2.2) has any known GPS locking issues - as in the Galaxy series of Samsung ?

Here it is, the original fancy widget; This font is no longer supported by its market app as HTC had sued them for copying its watch and weather widget with exact fonts...

Enjoy...
Attached Files
File Type: zip com.fancywidget.android.apk.zip (1.22 MB, 102 views)

Awesome, this is miles ahead of the fancy widget currently available in the market. This looks stock.
