Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

i have uninstalled Set CPU. I experienced a lot of lag while getting calls or answering them. The moment i uninstalled my sgs2 is back to speedy best and with removal of fast dormancy i am getting a solid day and half usage with 24hrs GPRS, full sync and may be 10-20 minutes of gaming.

More than enough i say.

DId anyone try the new firmware. XXKH1 and Litening 6?

I really dont understand the need for such apps. The phone already does the CPU speed throttling. Why do we need to mess with this builtin feature ?.

It depends on the Android version folks. I have 2.3.4 and it's not present at the location too.

May be its the voltage set on Setcpu that would have slowed down the process. Did you try and altered the setting on it ?
The best I have got on Lt.5 with setcpu was 42 hours usage including 4 mail sync on GPRS, 1 hr browsing on 3G, 1.5hr calls and some sms, 30-45mins HD gaming by my wife.
After disabling the Fast dromancy let the battery drain to 0 and charge again to 100 in one go. Should see better result. Also, have removed most of the samsung bloatware that helps a bit in better battery life.
Updated to Lt.6 2 nights back. Battery usage out of the first charge was not so good. On 2nd Charge after calibration the battery looks ok however it's early for me to say if it has increase battery usage, can only report on that after couple of days. Overall it seems slight smoother over Lt5.

So far the best was Lt 4.1, 4.2 giving out 2 days battery usage.

Overall I say stick Lt.5 for sometime, there is upgrade expected on Lt.6

But seriously, what a premium to be paid for Motorola! Still don't get it.

Well, looks like Google will no longer have to depend on other manufacturers for an "official" Google phone.

Google is not only buying the mobiles division - because Motorola Mobility is the mobiles and home business combined.

Now who knows, We can soon see Motorola made Android STBs or Android TVs as well.

The phone does CPU throttling. SetCPU will be useful to limit this throttling at times when we don't need it, (Screen off, or at night) and also to unleash it when you really need it.

For example, normally my phone operates from 245 Mhz to 998 Mhz. Now with SetCPU, it throttles only upto 700 Mhz while in standby mode, and upto 600 Mhz at night. When display is on, throttling can go upto 1.1 Ghz. When charge is below 15%, the max speed it still reduced to save some more battery.

Might be a recent change, day before yesterday I tried the similar thing and wanted to pay using ICICI, and while selecting payment mode it said.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Folks,

A question - Which in-car charger do you folks use? I am getting BlackBerryVehiclePowerChargermicroUSB12V - RIM IN for rs 699 from a retailer (prices have dropped!) but am not sure how "rapidly" it can charge. Kindly advise. thx!

I'm fed up with the cheap 250 buck thingies, and don't want the 12v to USB chargers because I suspect they will charge as slow as charging from a laptop. or am I wrong?

/don't apply screen protectors on your motorola defy phones - it screws up the proximity sensor - i bought the awesome n cheap ones recommended by dkaile saab but now i had to cut out a part of the protector for the touchscreen to work normally!!

What i found was even the 900 rupees chargers just dont charge at a speed that is really useful. I have discarded any chargers and have the cheapest 99 rupees ones just in case of emergency.

Alternately i am thinking of getting additional batteries instead of wasting on car chargers.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

i've been having a TON of problems with my Defy lately :(. The phone freezes on me a lot and i have to end up doing battery pulls to restart the thing. Also the interface just tends to slow down every so often (im on the stock Froyo rom).

Read well. Spend few days reading and re-reading. Create your own document on the steps for your phone and the ROM you choose.

Make sure you can get into recovery and download modes on the phone before you do anything. And make sure that the PC recognises your phone while it is in download mode.

Make sure you have right equipment - PC; cables, software (it is Kies or ODIN for Samsung - dunno what it is called for Moto) on the pc, etc. Make sure that you have net connection on the PC.

Make sure you have right recovery ROMs installed (if required).

Go one step at a time. Allow 2-3 days between the steps. (or have somebody who has done this for same phone / same model a phone call away). Root it first - if you want to go custom way. Install some random harmless package through the PC so that you get familiar with "upgrade from PC" option / "downloadmode" on the phone.

Create your own document of how to go about things (a copy paste from the relevant pages will do) and make sure you have necessary files on the PC.

Remove SIM and SD card while doing things from the PC (stock upgrade - if goind custom way, you WILL need the SD card inside the phone).

Of course, you do not need a PC for installing most custom ROMs - but you will need a rooted phone.

Do not jump the schedule - take your own sweet time doing things.

Do not panic if things go wrong. Make a list of things which may go wrong, make sure you know how to recover.

Doesnt' the Indian Motorola provide an official upgrades?

I have used full body protector (including screen) from Gadgetshieldz. I haven't faced any touch screen problem.
