Method to alter the partition table - you need to have Android SDK set up in the PC and also the fastboot command. Then you can just use the fastboot command to flash the partition table. Remember - flashing a partition table requires you to restore your Nandroid backup taken before the procedure in order to get the system back. So taking a nandroid backup before this procedure is a must.

Another easy but less reliable method (never worked for me) is to put that PB99IMG.zip file in the root of SD card, and boot into recovery hoping that bootloader would find the zip file and flash it.

A2SD+ and having and ext3/ext4 partition in your sd card is another thing and it doesn't have any relation with S-OFF or using another partition table. I have this too. There is an app called S2E which can be used to manage your apps storage in CM7. I have my apps in sd-ext/app but app data and dalvik cache in phone storage. This is a good set up because you don't face performance hit while starting apps because the dalvik is in the phone memory. Only the apks are in sd card!
Thank you so much again. Was a bit busy over the last 2 days. Got to try out what you had asked me to do only today.

I just gave the second option a try (Putting the zip file in sd and hoping that bootloader will find it method). My bootloader actually found it Worked like a charm. Did a restore of the backup and i am all set now.

195 MB of free memory I was playing around with 20 or 30 MB all these days! Thanks a ton.

I am still wondering if partitioning the memory card process is worth it at all now. Wouldn't this be sufficient to solve the memory problem with the Desire ? I want to start downloading all the apps and customizing the phone now.

I had another question. I recently got a Bluetooth module for the HU in the car. Its a Pioneer bluetooth module BTB200.

It just doesn't auto connect with Android's and Iphones! So, everytime i stop at a signal, i need to restart (turn off and turn on) my bluetooth on the phone for the auto connect to happen again! Its just defeating the whole purpose of handsfree. This is a well known bug online.

So, I was looking for an App which would turn off the bluetooth and turn it on again whenever the pairing is lost with any device. Is there any way i can do this ?

I am ok even if any of the hardware buttons (volume or scroll) buttons can act as a activation key to do this function in the lock screen. I keep the phone in the door pockets while driving, so its atleast a feasible option to press a button to restart the Bluetooth on the phone.

I saw an App called tasker which is around 300 bucks on the Android market. But, i am not too sure if i can automate a task like this ? I don't mind paying that amount too.

Any pointers is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post. I am desparately looking for solutions to this problem, but unable to find it online. So thought you guys might have ideas. Thanks in advance.

GSM version is available freely afaik or you can try sites like letsbuy.com. I imported these directly from the US on ebay.com through my US mail address as I do with all my cdma handsets.

I would somehow prefer to be on 2.3 if it is at least as stable as 2.2.2 (my existing version) - hopefully I should get some new features and get rid of some problems.
e.g.
If I set a timer, after the timer goes off, there is no way for me to stop it from ringing and vibrating. I have to reboot the phone.

Sometimes while getting an incoming call, I cannot swipe across to receive the call (when phone is locked).

At the same time, reading the XDA threads, it looks like there are several users who are facing issues either with battery (CM7) or with wifi (official 2.3.x)
I would not want a loss of functionality like camera/ video recording, wifi and 3G.
That link is the ramayana. You shouldn't need any of that. Just flash CM7 on top of your existing installation as said here:
[FAQ] Cyanogenmod 7 by Quarx - xda-developers

Start from step 2 where it says:
- Copy cm7.1.0-RC1.5-jordan-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip to your SD Card
- Enable USB Debugging
- Root via SuperOneClick

That has worked for alot of people here (Samurai, etc come to mind!)

If you think this is enough, then no need to partition sd card for more memory!

While tasker is a really nice tool to automate a lot of stuff, it is paid. I use "Llama" to automate some of the things - you can very well use this tool (free) to turn on your bluetooth automatically whenever you leave office or home! It just need to learn your office and home locations (from cell info) and then you can create two events based on these locations (Even to be triggered upon leaving the location) to turn on bluetooth. By the time you leave the cell tower in which is near your office, you will be inside the car and then bluetooth will turn on automatically and hopefully handsfree will connect to it! Try this and post back... I've never tried it though.

Now that your cache is just 5 MB, you will soon run into a problem where you can't install most of the apps from market. You just need to move market cache from phone memory to sd card by typing some simple linux commands. Will post the link if you need it later.

I was about to pick the neo v, when I saw a listing for Neo (not neo v) on ebay with 1 year dealer warranty at 17.5k. Applied HDFC coupon and got 750 discount Happy now. Between, which one did you picked. I normally use my mobile as a secondary camera, so better cam was important to me. Satisfied with the 8MP sensor and low light capabilities. Getting 2 days of battery back up with moderate usage (full time exchange sync and occasional wifi usage). Talk time may be 1-2 hour per day only, yes am a married man

Team-BHP androidians, please bear this noob in the coming days

I haven't bought one as yet. Will be getting one in a weeks time. I have zeroed in on Samsung Galaxy SL. Just contemplating where to buy it from because each online store has put it up at a different price.

As of today, deals on sulekha looks to be the cheapest ones.
but the shopping experience over their site is not even close to that of letsbuy and flipkart.

note that i am not associated with sulekha in any ways .
have posted the similar details over 2 times here.

Sulekha deals are too good. Both Neo v and Galaxy sl are available for 14.8k while its 17.5k on Flipkart.
I have used Letsbuy once to buy a mobile for my mom. There was a delay by one day, so i had called up their customer support. No luck. It was virtually impossible to get in touch with anyone and finally i gave up. I received my order the next day. What if i hadn't or had other issues ?
I have not used Flipkart as yet, but their policies like 30 day exchange and customer support seem far better.

Good option. In my case, it was one of the finalists Before buying do check for availability of coupons on online stores. It can save you few bucks

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Can someone suggest a good android phone for under 15k.

Requirements : Will double it up as a Gps device. Will download the Sygic MMi maps from the links provided a couple of pages earlier in this thread.
That apart, i am not a power user. Will use it only for phone calls and occasional messaging. Prefer a good battery life.
