Interesting thing is, now ETA also considers traffic. For example, yesterday it showed an ETA of 5 minutes to reach home for me (late night).

Now, it shows ETA of 14 minutes because of heavier traffic on the same roads.

That's correct . Before leaving just check Google Now as it will be updated with the real time traffic with delay time.
Unfortunately this ETA is not realistic as it takes me 40 minutes to reach home at this time.

I don't have Sygic on my Defy+. Had it last year on my Galaxy Ace and after the mis-directions on my road trip, I un installed it. So I can't help you with the map version number now.

On another note, can people suggest a good text messaging app? I hate the stock JB one and didn't particularly like Go SMS or Handcent too much either.

Long press on the post and touch on ' select' , repeat for multiple posts. Then press " multi quote reply " from the options.

on a side note, here is the motorola droid razr m. JUICY is what i can say:

even http://www.bgr.com/2012/07/20/motoro...hd-review-att/ looks nice.

Bad timing for them to be pulling out of India if they are actually doing as per BGR. Pity they never marketed their products properly!

I am planning to by the 'cheapest' android tablet available.
I have locked in on a 1ghz, 256 mb ddr3 ram tablet with pre-loaded android 2.3
Some newbie questions:
1. Is it possible to upgrade to latest android
2. I intend to do my 'research' by installing 'self-written' applications. How easy is it to restore the OS to it's original state :)

Cheap tablets / phones from Micromax / iBall / Karbo are good place to start if you want to spend less than 10k.

Just make sure you Google to find out which "actual" device you are buying and if Windows drivers (for rooting /development) + rooting instructions are available for that device.

E.g: Micromax A100

If you are a developer, it might be better to work with a dev board instead of a real tablet / phone.

http://www.cutedigi.com/development-...d-android.html

With that, you can easily change configuration E.g. attach a different resolution LCD, attach a different GPU/CPU/GPS/WiFi

And you can install pretty much any Android version.

"Reinstalling" the OS is as simple as:

1. Download image from Samsung/Motorola or even stock AOSP
2. Copy to SD card (and *** drivers provided with dev board)

Do you know how do I switch the view to the road type of view ?
i.e. the same as that is displayed in traditional Navigation software ?

Yesterday I was able to get the Road type of view (similar to the view from your car windshield ) , however today it would not switch to that view and just kept the elevated view.

Folks with Sony Xperia S

They have released a new firmware : 6.1.A.2.45

Upgraded today.
Navigation has improved. it has become more fluid.
I see faster response to the the applications. Camera click speed too is faster.

Some updates say the battery life has improved. Yet to verify that.
The base version is still Android 4.0.4 ICS

All in all I would say a good update. :thumbs up

Thanks. 'Driver availability' would not have occurred to me if you had not mentioned. I would prefer to have an actual low cost tablet, get used to the applications and try out some mild self-developed code. I guess the board-type devices suit professional developers only.

What is the price range you are looking for?

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_tipo-4718.php - now that's an awesome low cost device IMHO. Priced well, specs are good too. A bit sharper pricing and the Galaxy Y has serious competition!

I took Sygic out for a spin this evening. Just a short and well-known-anyway journey.

First thing was that it's route was the obvious one, and not the one I wanted to take. It was quick and smooth in its recalculations.

Second thing was that the presentation, even on a phone as small as Defy+ was understandable without reading glasses.

Third thing was that it eventually brought me home using OMR/Perungudi back streets that even cab drivers won't use unless they live in this area. That impressed me :)

Can I now do a "I told you so" dance? :D

Its a 3.7" screen man - you dont need samsung style thick bezels for midsize phones!

btw, as for service experience, HTC has been sleeping on my Chacha for a week after I gave it in for a touchscreen that had gone kaput and a couple of non-responsive keys. No line of sight on diagnosis, nothing. The Gurgaon service center is just a front end, where they take defective pieces in - send it to another NCR center for actual service. Which may later send it for a next level escalation.

Motorola OTOH has no customers. So you want in, chitchat, then in 5 mins you get a crystal clear idea of the problem. In 20 mins you are walking back out with your phone working perfectly. It is not funny how awesome Motorola service in GGn is. Except the company is supposedly abandoning India :(

Good Indeed.
However Specification wise Karbonn phones still beat it down.

Check the comparison

Don't give the "Its a chinese phone" argument. I have 2 friends who have got these phones, and no issues at all.
