Completely disagree on this. I have been suffering a HTC chacha since I made the mistake of surrendering to qwerty lust & android again while giving up the defy to the wife.

Motorola service is not fancy but it is WAY WAY WAY more competent, quick and awesome compared to HTC for instance. There is no fancy redington types useless "collection office" which adds 2 days to your service times - no stupid clerk who does not have the common decency to pick up your phone (and let you know that your device is back) and lo and behold, minor issues / replacements get done by hand. This is my experience in Gurgaon.

In 4 months, the chacha has spent 3 weeks in the service center. Both times i dropped the defy, they repaired the LCD in 15 mins flat.

Of course, it there is major warranty replacement, rest assured any company will take a week or so in paperwork because giving a DOA certificate etc takes time. Samsung's network may make them faster, but not necessarily nicer as you have seen.

Also my friend, consider call quality - the defy IS miles ahead of the chacha. The chacha is the king of Call-drop-istan aka the Hello-Hello-Hello-Beep-master.

IMNSHO, MOtorola is legally bound to provide service backup to every phone they sell - i dont think things are just packing up overnight. That's as per a recent chat i had with the gurgaon service center (who btw are clueless about their future - well played, motorola & google!).

Lastly, Motorola products are well engineered. Good engineering is not about the latest specs n marketing them well (which samsung is awesome at), but about phones that are robust. However, buy a case asap - the screen is flush with the bezel and is not inset. that does increase chances of a cracked screen if you drop it hard.

@phamilyman; I always held the view that for QWERTY either Blackberry or even Nokia are the better options a mile. I know I am committing blasphemy but so be it.

I agree with you that Motorola service is competent enough. I also know that they are legally liable to service. IMO, the Motorola pulling out of India is being blown out of proportion as I'm seeing many 3-4 month old phones going dirt cheap, even the droid RAZR.

I bought the Atrix 2 despite knowing these facts and I stand by the build quality of Moto phones.

What is a question mark is the acquisition by the big G and its consequences. I don't trust Google with the decision to allow Moto to flourish, unless their next flagship is a Droid Nexus.

Could you tell the approximate cost of replacing LCD in defy ? My colleague dropped his defy on concrete floor and the LCD got cracked. Rohan

I concur with this view totally. I bought the Defy+ (you won't get a new Defy as it is now phased out) exactly for the modding aspect. In 1.5 months of ownership, I've gone from stock ROM to ICS, to JB and now settled on WajkIUI GB ROM. It performs well and battery life is a day or more. At Rs 12,750 you really can't expect anything more. Look at the features AT THAT PRICE POINT and you'll see what I mean.

Not at all sir. BB is the king of QWERTY followed closely by Nokia (which gets weighed down by the stupid Symbian OS).

If, like Playbook, BB would allow sideloading of Android (or some apps) on their phones, that would make for a killer device.

I haven't bought a case (or a screen protector) for my Defy Plus yet. Is this a good case?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Ok guys here is a statement attributed to a senior executive in Motorola Mobility for APAC region about MM's plans. Link . Do not really know how credible this report is, but should put some fears to rest. I for one am going to take this at face value, if I end up looking the fool so be it.

OTOH retailers I have just spoken to , there are two in my neighborhood, are saying "Arrey sirr Motorola company band ho gayi hai saari worrrld mein" and they are trying to push the brands they stock first being BB ofcourse, then the rest.

Buy a hard shell case (rubberised plastic) which has the edges slightly elevated with respect to the screen.

This prevents direct glass contact if you drop it and the elevated ridge absorbs the impact. I've had these covers breaking on impact but the phone survives.

I don't prefer Silicon or TPU because the phone feels oiled up & also because these cases are moisture & dust magnets.

I think about 2000 for the GLASS, 2650 for the LCD. It should be the glass only.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Today i got my hands on my new Nexus that my cousin brought from the US of A. Its so light as compared to my Nokia C6-01. Screen is big and this is my first android experience. I just checked out the phone and could see that there are many options / features etc. I have charged the phone 100% and have kept it at home (i want to buy i good cover before i start using it). Rear battery cover is very flimsy and will break if not handled carefull, however its textured so no finger prints issue. Front is glossy and gets smudged easily.

I tried the Wifi option to connect to the internet and i could, only issue is that after 10 mins or so when i click on a FB link, it says no internet connection. It happened twice. So i am wondering whether any sort of timer etc is there (dont know).

Need suggestions from the gurus on:

1) Good quality rugged cover for the Nexus
2) Is it worth going to JB (it has 4.0.4 now)
3) How to fix the wifi issue
4) Other usefull stuff that will come in handy for a first time android user.
5) Which bluetooth earpiece is the best in terms of price and comfort (model no. will make things easy for me). Why Bluetooth? Because i have had two instances of phone not working and service center stating 'water logging' as the issue and hence no warranty claim was processed. I presume it might be the sweat that may have creeped inside while being on the call for a long time (just my theory as there is no other possibility as i always use a cover and am very cautious)

My usage will be calls, texting, lots of whatsapp and FB. I shall slowly learn from all the droid-gods here.

Loving the symbian to droid move

Cheers,
Raj

Hi all note owner, can you let me know your feedback after this update.

IMO the battery is draining a lot after this update and the apps are getting rearranged automatically even though i change it again and again.

Also the home screen suddenly goes blank sometime after i receive or make a call .

DO I HAVE A OPTION TO GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL 404 OPERATING SYSTEM WITHOUT THIS UI UPDATE??

Well go to settings and disable restore automatically for some time.
Make sure that your time is NITZ ( network time ) and not local manual setting.

Actually there is this new cool feature ( part of sCloud now) which automatically backs up application organization apart from usual things like
Contacts , Calendars , Call logs , SMS , MMS on server.

I think due to some issue like bandwidth either your app organization is not getting backed up or of time difference between server and handset it is auto restoring the old one.

PS : About other issues like screen going blank I cant comment right now.

Guys, need help here. The Wifi on my new Nexus connects for the first time and i am able surf, download etc but only for a short time. It detects the wifi modem and saves it but keeps searching for the IP Address. This happens after the 1st run of around 10 - 20 minutes. Then i need to switch off and switch on the wifi and again enter my wifi modem security password and the internet starts again.

Please help gurus. I am a bit worried here.
