Hi people,

Just an update. Happy using MMX A110 for three weeks now. Wify is happy that I ain't touching iPad often. Got scratch guard and back cover at SP road. Phone looks really cool and premium.

Though I won't complain at this price point, few negative pointers exists, not a deal breaker for me. 512 RAM, no auto brightness, no compass. I couldn't run sygic maps. I really wanted a offline maps.

With the kind of shelf life for these devices I am proud to say jai ho! MMX

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Samsung Galaxy Grand launched in India for Rs 21,500 !

Not a bad price for a 5inch phablet. There is no AMOLED screen though. I wonder where the ageing S2 stands now which is priced slightly higher than this.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Best bang for bucks - Micromax A116, Quad Core, HD screen 1280X720, 1 GB ram.
Price - Rs.14000.
Suddenly the Samsung Grand looks too foolish in currenty 2013 era of phones.

Use the "make available offline" option in Google Maps.

What? No compass in A110? That's unbelievable. For me that's really bad deal breaker.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys, need help quickly.
I am in the US for a week and I am unable to install Google voice on my LG optimus 4X. It says This item cannot be installed in your device's country.
Any quick workarounds without rooting the device?

Thank you roy_libran . I was looking for the 1.5 GHz version on ebay but couldn't find a deal , Will check again .
There are not many mods for Indian version on Snapdragon S3 processor , anyways i am not into flashing ROM's . Somehow i like the stock ROM's specially the sense.

Thank you vigneshnr . I hope i can get a deal at around 25k , heard the Jelly Bean upgrade is near . Is that true ?

Try going to https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...glevoice&hl=en

Install from the web and hopefully it'll show up on your phone as long as its connected to the internet.

To use Google Voice, you need to have a Google Voice number which is tied with your actual phone number. It won't recognize your phone number unless you do this from web - voice.google.com

Of course, everything these days is Chinese make.

MMX is doing well in this budget conscious market. They are actually firing on all guns. The 110 is well received and I am sure the Canvas HD will set another record for 15K with so much of specs.

So, it all comes to the QC standards demanded by the front company. While Apple demands the highest quality control from their Chinese suppliers, Micromax may not damand the same QC, for it is expensive.
Completely disagree folks.

Please don't portray your current prejudices against these brands.

BHPians have reported multiple times that the funbook is "made in India".

So was the original canvas etc - AFAIK. I had a friend working there at that time. Of course, the components etc mostly come from China - most of which is manufactured outside India.

You can't do it with an Indian phone number. You need a US phone number to register with google voice and then you can add a US or Canadian cell number as an alternate. The second number can be added on the phone.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Experts,

The screen of my 1 month old SGS3, keeps on getting activated (within few seconds) automatically, when the phone is in idle mode.

But once restarted, the problem is rectified i.e. the screen gets locked.

Please advise me the root cause as to which process(s) are responsible for this.

cheers!
