It refers to a database and verifies the name - I have used it some time back.

Although good to use but harms privacy.

When a user installs true caller the app uploads the user's entire contacts to its server. Thus creating a large database formed by a large number of users.

Have you checked this post from Arup Misra on the other mobile phone thread? Seems to me a better way of getting the Nexus4 (and cheaper too)

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Anyone used the Noozy app for listening to music? Though it was removed from the Google Play store, you can download the .apk from other places. I guess it was removed since it resembled another official player.

Loved the interface and here are some screenshots - I love the way you get a nice fullscreen player and with many options.

As this phone is used by my wife, it does not see any real stress tests.

Some points to note.

The battery will see you through a day easily with low-moderate use.
The screen quality is excellent.
The touch response is really slick. It beats phones costing twice over.
The camera is average. The claimed 8MP is a joke. However, there is next to no lag when you want to shoot a picture.
The phone/processor does get warm even with light loads such as running youtube. The processor seems to be located right where the Intel logo is as that is the area where it gets warm.
The ram use has not crossed 400mb.
The audio quality is very acceptable from the built in stereo speakers. Have not checked the ear plugs.
The charger chord is too short. Reported by many.
The "O" letter stopped working a couple of days ago and this freaked me out. A reboot fixed the problem.
The phone size is perfect. Easy to hold and the rubber back panel provides good grip.
The power button is a little difficult to press due to the design of the phone.
Played a 720P 1.9gb sized Top Gear episode. No playback issues though it was required that I download a x86 specific codec for MX Player. The colors and contrast are superb.
Call quality is very good.
I have noticed a lot of latency (If you can call it that) when connected to the home WiFi. It works when its just connected, then stops working and then picks ups again all the time while indicating good signal strength. I face this problem even on my Motorola Atrix 2. Turning OFF/ON the WiFi fixes the problem but the cycle repeats again. My home WiFi is WPA2 protected with MAC address filtering. I do not face any problems with my desktop or laptop so that rules out the router.

At a price of 14K, there is no phone that can beat the performance and value this Xolo offers.

Its very simple. It triangulates people's names from everyone's address books. So everyone uploads their address books into the system. So for every caller, it is able to triangulate the name / region etc based on what is the common name & telecom operator #.

Samsung to update the Galaxy S III with better screen and battery as per the below article. Surprised by this news if true!

Samsung might be working on a refreshed Galaxy S III edition with a better display, a bigger battery and wireless charging. Reportedly, the new battery capacity will be 2400 mAh - 14% more powerful than the original unit.

Looks like this price is exclusive of customs + octroi. With these taxes, price would increase by approx 2k.

If you're receiving an International delivery it is very likely that you'll have to pay customs fees. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to quantify exactly how much you'll have to pay in customs fees, as import duties vary from country to country, and on occasion from state to state as well.

Just got myself a Google Nexus 4 16GB. Bought directly from Google play store and used Shopandship service by Aramex for delivering it in NCR. No hassles at all. Order date - 2nd March, delivered at home on 11th March. Everything in order. Customs duty Rs. 1897/-.

Loving the pure Google experience.

Cheers!!

How much did it totally cost you - including the price of the phone and the shipping, customs etc?

Phone costs = USD 395.21 (inclusive of google shipping & local taxes)

This is what a fellow Bhpian Arup was charged over and above the phone cost
Quote:

Shopandship India shipping = INR 540 (exclusive of service tax)

Customs Duty = INR 500

Customs Handling Charges = INR 100 (exclusive of service tax)

Total = INR 1140

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

JB update for MMX A110 Canvas 2 is out. Not OTA; one has to visit service center or google on how to download it unofficially.
