Easier to get it done yourself. Get CMW and install off the Cynus T2 ROM - I am sure that it is the same - just that Micromax would have renamed everything to "Micromax"

Octo core. I am waiting for the CDMA version, and it to land up in India. Going by past experience it may be Quad Core.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

The octo core is a marketing scam - its basically 4 a15 cores and 4 a7 cores at a much lower clock. The latter are slow anyway and won't add much to performance. All 4 of them would be equivalent in performance to 1 a15/qualcomm krait core. These cores are similar to the low power companion core in tegra3. They add nothing to performance.

For all intents and purposes, this is a 1.6GHz quad core cortex a15 phone.

Bang on! First thing first, Android isn't multi-core friendly OS! Adding more core will slow the system down overall.

How better benchmark scores co-relate to faster overall system I'm not sure!

If you compare Intel single core 2GHz phone in sure performance Vs 4/8 core you will know which one is better!

But after all, Good Marketing can sell scrap too!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello BHPians
I have recently moved into android platform and while i am totally enjoying the experience the only disappointment is the battery backup that i am getting.

So i set up an alarm last night at around 2 am at that time the battery remaining was 85% and i woke up at 6.30 and was surprised to see that it had consumed around 15–20% battery in just 4 and a half hours during which the phone was not even touched once and even wifi/gprs was off.
The only background running app was i think the Stock ICS alarm app. The battery status showed awake all this while. So after that i switched off the alarm and from 6.30 till 8 in the morning the battery consumed was just 3% and the battery status didn't displayed awake after that. Please see the attached screneshot.

So i want to know that does a simple app such as an Alarm can consume this much battery?
Any solutions

Yep for general UI fluidity , I've still to see a phone which is better than the xolo x900. Also keep in mind it is running ics which is supposed to be much worse than jb in ui smoothness. The newer x1000 or whatever should be even faster. The only problem with x86 is that native apps compiled outside the dalvik vm might have trouble with performance or might not run at all if binary translation doesn't work. Another issue is that the x86 android ecosystem is stuck at ics while the rest of the world has moved on.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I really do not know what extra speed will one achieve using 8 cores. So for all practical purposes, we can assume that this phone will be blazing fast. All the rumors point to an amazing screen. I guess for a person owning S3, S4 might not mean much but for a person owning S2 (like me) switching to S4 makes sense (of course if the price point is sane).

Just want to ask - Is S4's screen Full HD i.e 1080p? So what resolutions used to be there on previous phones like S3? Sorry but my understanding of screen resolutions is completely zero.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I know there's a lot heat building up with this S4 launch. Personally, I'd tadvise - the Note series from Samsung than throwing your hard earned money into the S-series. For some reason, I feel the Note exudes a better build quality yet plasticky. How I wish they could come up with an Aluminium build !

SO, my question here is a litt OFF the current discussion (ie- S4). I regularly receive updates via Wi-Fi on my Note 2 that's currently on 4.1.2. After the last update, I see that the screen timeout function has goofed up. Although, I have it setup for 1 minute, the screen just fails to timeout until I do that additional click. So, that's TWO clicks now to turn screen light off. ONE CLICK to lock screenfollowed by ONE CLICK to turn screen off.

A friend told me that's a possible virus. I doubt it. I run Webroot Security so I doubt that's a possibility.

Can someone help with a solution please?

A gimmick really, because Android isnt even developed to handle 8 cores. Technically the device is dual-quad-core.

S3 had a 720p display on a 4.7" screen, the S4 comes with 1080p on a 5".

I too moved into Android platform recently & I'm completely loving the experience. I set up 7a.m. alarm at 11 the previous night, battery consumed during that period was about 5-6%. I have downloaded only a handful of apps till now & i don't think any of them were running if that is any indication.
Will leave the solution for your problem to the Android experts!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy S3 and was exploring the S Voice feature. Surprised to know this feature has its own sense of humour. Let me explain:
me: Hi Galaxy.
S3: What would you like to do?
me: Whatsapp.
S3: I think I partied too hard last night.
Attaching the screenshot of the same.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

So finally the S4 comes to the party. If they price this phones sensibly which I highly doubt then I am surely gonna upgrade to it from my S2. But price it closer to 40k and I would rather stick to my S2.

Whats the take on HTC one? A part of me wants to leave samsung and explore something new this time, probably HTC. Have heard so much about there UI.

HTC One is, quite simply, phone of the year. Look at Engadget's review of the same.

S4 is underwhelming to me (but its not their Fault). This is actually Samsung's Apple moment. The spectacular S3 means people had sky high expectations and it was always going to disappoint.
