Note : Your "defaults" will not be remembered, also the custom labels (eg. Ampere's USA Mobile" will default back to "Mobile" (a limitation of the vcf format)

For me it was even easier. Just had to put the micro SD card from Nokia to Samsung and then asked Samsung to import all the vcf's available on that SD card.

BTW, had my first major crash of the phone last Friday. The phone app started force closing and the LauncherPro was not responding at all. I did removed the battery twice when the phone froze with a black screen after the phone app forced closed. But even after restart phone was just freezing. Weather widgets were also freezing. Removed the weather widgets thinking they were the culprits and restarted. Things started working fine but even the same thing happened next day. So this time I've changed to twLauncher again to default and killed LauncherPro. Now things are working fine. Might be some issue with less memory being available due to app downloads. Really needs Froyo soon.

That seems an easier approach. Thanks for sharing. Meanwhile of the three, (Galaxy3(5801) Galaxy 5(5503) and Spica (5700)) which is worth buying.

I gather that 3 and 5 are new releases. Compared to the two, 3 has a higher resolution camera. All have same Andoid version (2.1)
3 also has bigger touch screen.

EDIT : One more question: I figured out that Galaxy may be a better choice. But how about it plastic body? Does it too fragile?
Also how do these phones stand against the Sony Ericsson Mini and Mini Pro?

I am sure Galaxy 3 Has a better screen than Galaxy 5

I think one of member is about to purchase the Galaxy3 and should be able to point out the major features/drawbacks...

^^^That would be funny - cheaper and smaller variant having a better screen! Unfortunately SG 5's screen is smaller... but if its better, I might consider it.

If anybody here has purchased either of the less-than-galactic twins, do give us a review.

What I dont understand is that:

When compared to Spica Galaxy 3 has more RAM but less powerful CPU.
So what is Samsung trying here? It makes the choice between the two difficult.

The only only point is then that more RAM will mean more APPS (though slow) and Galaxy3 is newer model and hence may be better.

^^^Whats the use if it (Galaxy 3) has such a low resolution screen? :( Spica was known for its screen quality and SG3 will be known for its poor screen.

Not a single Android phone seems worth buying in this range. :(

Its 1.6 Android and not 2.1 and SG/Spica models are. That is a big difference.
Is Sony providing an upgrade?

@Raccoon,

Then what do you suggest? Nothing? Of the latest releases Spica (5700) and Galaxy 3 are worthing looking at.
Looks like Spica may be better. Should be fine with lower CPU speed. Better have good touch screen.

Hey, sorry. I didn't read the automatic part of your requirement.
I don't think Quick Profiles does it automatically.

Let me know if you find one.

As mentioned by Ampere, don't want to be stuck with 1.6.

I'd seriously consider the Spica if it were available. Though it seems its not going to get the 2.2 upgrade. But now even that isn't an option. SG3's low res. screen is a big let down. So I dunno what to do. Since no other Android is worth looking at in this range, I'm considering Blackberry Storm. But it will stretch my budget and also the clickity-clackety screen mentioned in reviews I might not like... would need to try out a working piece somewhere, before I consider it. Else I feel only other option for me is to choose some cheaper touchscreen for the shorter term, until the Android phone market sees some better launches and prices come down.

Ok, since the "honeymoon" period with my phone is over, now I'd like to develop some apps for it. I have no clue about Java/Eclipse etc., so I guess I'll have to start with that. Any links or leads will be helpful. Thank you guys in advance.

Yesterday, HTC announced the release of its HTC Desire HD.

Specs are :

Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) with HTC Sense™

Internal phone storage: 1.5 GB
RAM: 768 MB

Expansion slot: microSD™ memory card (SD 2.0 compatible)

CPU Processing Speed :1 GHz

For further details - HTC - Products - HTC Desire HD - Specification

I am getting mine as soon as it is available, either in the middle-east or in India, wherever it launches first.

Only downside is that this model does not have a front-facing camera for 3G Video Conferencing. Besides that, this is better than the Samsung Galaxy S or the iPhone 4.

A detailed comparison is done already between these 3 leading devices. Refer - HTC Desire HD vs iPhone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy S | News | TechRadar UK

How does Motorola milestone and backflip compare to phones in same price. Is it only style value? Will they get or be able to run android 2.2 ?
