Desire is not available in hyd from past 6 weeks. it s not available in Mumbai as well. The price though is around 25k if you can find it.

On www.flipkart.com the HTC Desire is available for Rs 26,799 and Samsung Galaxy S is available for Rs 27,999. That is a decent price and very close to 25K.

Guys, i have a SE Xperia X10 which comes with an outdated OS - Android 1.6, although SE promises to update it to Android 2.1 in Q3 2010.

Although, i am not too interested in these tech specs, i am badly waiting for the upgrade for the following reasons-
1) 25k colors of screen will be upgraded to 16M colors - 25k colors in a 35k phone is a joke!
2) 720p HD recording with Auto focus
3) Improved UI

When i was searching for any upgrades on the net, i came across this Android forum where i was recommended to de-brand my phone to UK Generic (my phone is currently UAE customized) so that i get the upgrade fastest. Other reason is i dont have the Android Market application as UAE phones dont get Android market app!!! is this safe? Any cons in doing this?

Later, while searching, i came across this software "Astro File Manager" which i downloaded over the air. Now i can download all the free apps to my computer, just copy paste the file onto my phone & install it using AFM! Finally i am able to install apps onto my phone.

but i still face certain issues-
1) Calender does not open as it requires me to log on to gmail account. everytime i try this, it shows "error! try next time".
2) I do need the Android Market app on my phone.

I really do not know if point 1 you will definately get with software upgrade or if it is hardware limitation on the phone check it out.

Do it ASAP , Just read the instructions carefully for flashing image .
If you are not confident of doing it yourself ask service guys who flash the software to burn Indian image or UK image for you.

Have anybody tried LG Optimus with Android 1.6.
The price is 11.5k in Chennai and has everything in it.
Whether it's upgraded to Android 2.1 or 2.2.
Camera is 3MP only and rest is good.
Cold GPS Locking is very fast compare to other mobiles(Nokia/Samsung).
GMaps and Navteq(NDrive) are preloaded.
Shape and handling the phone is good and touchscreen is not up to the mark.
The LG Optimus(GT540) Smartphone*

Nopes.

X10 is 16M colors ready, so firmware upgrade will have 16M colors screen. X10 does not support multi touch though- hardware limitations.

I tried, followed all instructions, but in vain! Will the Sony guys do it for me since i have bought the phone from UAE?

if given the option, i should flash the software to Indian image, right?

Samsung have launched some new handsets in the UK for £100. They are a better bet than the now dated Optimus.

Also if you know anyone travelling to the UK ask them to pick up a ZTE Blade for you. Nice decent spec phone at a very good price.

From what I have heard, it will go upto 2.1 only. So you will most likely be stuck with that, that too when it comes. Also screen is resistive.

It may have its pluses, looks good and all, but specs certainly seem dated now.

Guys,

I am planning to pick up the Samsung i5801 Apollo for wifey and I9000 Spica for myself. Does anyone here have these phones and what is the feedback on them? Whereabouts in Bangalore would they be available? I walked into a couple of Univercell and Sangeetha stores, but none had them in stock so that got me wondering.

Having decided to buy the HTC desire, I checked in a shop and got a quote of 27300.
The cheapest on ebay right now is at 26.5k.

Now, the big confusion - The box doe not say anything about SLCD or AMOLED. The manufacturing month is mentioned as Oct 2010 on the box which I checked in the shop. (IIRC, There was a shortage of AMOLED.)
How do I find out if the screen is AMOLED or SLCD?

The ebay seller has confirmed that his stock is with AMOLED Screen.

I would say even if it is not known it should not be of that big difference as both type of screens are supposedly equally good.

In order to not have their sales impacted htc may not be specifying on the product if screen is amoled or slcd.

I paid 12k for it. I've recently read somewhere that its now available for 11.4k.

Interface in general is smooth. However opening up the Messages and Contact menus do take a few mili seconds more than normal.
Touch screen is very good. But, visibility under sun is almost 0.
I'm not much of a gaming person. Havent installed any games yet. But have tried playing videos (divx), and they do play without any delays.

GPS once locked is good. It generally takes about 2-3 mins to get the GPS lock.

Battery for me lasts for about 2 days. This includes about 1.5 hrs of music over bluetooth headset daily and may be around 1 hr of phone calls per day. Plus around 30 mins of wifi usage.

Regards,
