It says that the Samsung Galaxy 3 i5801 is 3G ready, but uses WCDMA technology, instead of "HSPA". WCDMA is much older than HSPA.

What does it mean ?

EDIT: Ironically, i5800 is listed as HSPA. Are i5801 and i5800 different?
You will get upto 2Mbps with WCDMA without HSDPA. HSPA belongs to 3.5G. Although I am not sure if the Indian operators are going for HSPA or just plain 3g.

Remove any old kies installed in your pc, run a registery clean to remove old kies traces, download latest kies for I5801 from samsungmobile.com, convert your handset to Kies mode from mass storage mode and it should connect without any glitch.

@Rehaan - Firmware confusion can be resolved over here

Update - Only risk I see while updating firmware to a non-indian one or from xda that you passage to update via kies in future is closed, as while checking for updates kies will not find any updates for your phone's firmware on Indian servers.
Thanks Ash. Will try fiing Kies like you've said. I prefer to keep the indian firmware, but if nothing else works i'll try the other one.

BSNL supports HSDPA. In my phone, the net symbol is shown as 'H' now. On Dokomo 3g, it shows 3g, and E on airtel.

Welcome to Galaxy 3, its a good phone, i bought it for 11.5k from futurebazaar and 18 days waiting i got it, however it was with free car inverter.

12.3k is little over priced, other online reliable shop like flipcart sells for around 11.5k i think.
Froyo is yet to get officially released for Galaxy3, its available from other ROM providers but you'll need to root your phone before you can install it,
I am not doing it until i learn some stuff of android on 2.1 already.

Anybody tried MyMyIndia + Sygic for Android? I just loaded it's simply wow. Nice smoooth scrolling and very intuitive software. Maps and POI's are spot on although POI search is on the slower side for wild card searches.Time to get rid of my Garmin and Navigon.

It's on N1 by the way.

I have it on my Legend. It's pretty good but I am having problems with the font/text not appearing in some screens. A friend of mine is using it on his iPhone and he suggested that I download it. I must say I am impressed even though I have never had the opportunity to fully test its potential.
