If it does routing, can you route without connecting to the Data network?
Tanveer, brut maps does offer turn by turn navigation. The maps are offline (or downloaded on demand while scrolling) I have always used its navigation while keeping mobile network connection on. So I don't know for sure whether it will do it without a data connection. Anyway, network traffic won't be huge because maps are available in the SD card.

Will try navigation offline and update you.

Black, which maps are you using, do let us know .

For example, on my PC I can go to google maps go to directions, and create a route, then export it as kml and then convert to gpx and put it on SD card.
This is complex for me . Brut maps was easy click, download and install and then cache the maps to sd card by scrolling through maps at different zoom levels.

Yes, MMI sygic is a good alternative but then we want it free, hehe!!!

Thanks Sheetumanu, I observed yesterday that the screen display is on when the navigation is working. Only issue might be that the navigation probably needs a data connection to get going.

I don't why you couldn't get it done. I directly opened the link for brut maps download on phone while being connected to wi-fi and after downloading , it installed itself. No issues with that.

I did the same, followed Clever's post about the same earlier in this thread.

Yes, brut maps does routing but IMO you will need the data connection to get started atleast for the routing(start to destination).
I tried again without data connection, it worked till entering the start and destination point, then it connected to GPS but then it kept showing "getting driving direction" and never went ahead of this.
Tried with basic GPRS too, but again the same thing.
Probably a data subscription pack is needed.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I have samsung galaxy s (captivate). I recently upgraded it officially to 2.2(froyo). Before upgrading it was on root 2.1.

Is it possible to get ROOT on 2.2? How do i do that.

I went through a couple of website, but it seems i can't get a proper step by step link.

look for a couple of apps like OCLF(One click lag fix) but they have removed root access.

Please help

[APP] z4root - xda-developers

Check your android version before downloading. If you are on 2.2.1 it won't work ( unless you downgrade to 2.2 and then try it).

Thanks for the link. I found another one called superoneclick. I don't know how good is that. will be trying in a couple of hours.

The android version that is firmware version is showing 2.2.its too slow. i am getting a score of only 1750 on system benchmark. the one with root use to give 1950.

I want to go tje custom roms but i am too confused which to pick and how to do it.

Thanks again.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Does anyone have any idea about an answering machine/voicemail sort of app for android? I have searched extensively but in vain.

Here is what I am looking for; if I receive a call from an unknown number, the app answers the call and plays a custom message (just like voicemail) and then asks caller to leave a message. I can then hear the messages later or answer the call while the caller is recording his message.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello,

A cousin of mine is returning to India from the UK shortly. And am very keen on calling for an Orange Sanfrancisco which is available pay as you go on the Orange UK website for 99 GBP.

I have a few questions:

1) Is this phone unlocked? If not then how does one unlock it before bringing it down to India?

2) I heard that the phone apart from comes in two display modes - AMOLED and TFT. I want the TFT - now how to differentiate between the AMOLEd and TFT?

Looking forward to your comments.

Cheers!

It does say:
"After a while, water tends to seep in through the camera and flash gap"

So maybe its not as rugged as it advertises.
Maybe it was a problem with that specific unit because none of the other reviews have mentioned this. Motoblur still has it's kinks unfortunately. In that respect, the galaxy ace is pretty good
