re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello,

I have ordered an Orange SF grey from CPW and awaiting delivery. I am keen on installing a custom ROM on my OSF.

Any idea which version of the Froyo 2.2 or Gingerbread 2.3 is efficient and stable without WIFI-3G disconnections and maintains good battery life.

Looking forward to your recommendation and guidance.\

Cheers!

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Something 'interesting' about my phone I discovered recently.

It has 4 bars for denoting the network reception. I was of the opinion, each bar corresponds to maybe 20% signal strength and the last one being around 40%. Please correct me if I made a wrong assumption here.

I installed a widget 'phono' which displays signal strength in %. Now even when the signal strength shown is 45%, all the bars are up showing full coverage. Only once, the figure dropped to 39% and I lost just one bar.

Anybody else noticed this?

Secondly, battery life. When the default icon shows only 10% depleted battery, the widgets suggest somewhere around 25-30% depleted battery.

It usually lasts me a day on a single charge with calls, messages, some games, music and occasional video.

EDIT: Sorry, omitted the phone name. Its Galaxy Ace.

4. Your phone will be displayed in computer with a drive letter
5. Start sygic assistant, it will detect the phone and then select option to install the software with maps to Phone.
6. When you start for first time it will ask for activation key. Go to sygic website and enter the product key MMI sent you in email. This will generate a license for you.
7. Use this license to activate NCR maps.

Hope it helps.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks a lot DCEite , i did the same but navigation was not working , only after installing gps booster lite i was able to get a GPS location.

I wil give it a test on this tuesday and let you know.

I'm on FLB G2 (r8a) and it is very very stable. Never had a crash.

Hang on as far as 2.3 is concerned. The Cyanogen roms are still not very stable.

What about the latest build FLB G2 r10b? Is there a detailed step by step guide to installing this ROM?

well, I am also attracted towards Galaxy i9003, was quoted 19.8k for it. 16GB of internal memory draws me towards it.

Any inputs on that phone ?

@shashank: If you can afford the Galaxy SL then just go ahead and buy it. Its still one of the best phones available in the market only thing differing it from the original galaxy s is the screen. But then the SLCD display is the second best display in the market.

Don't know much about this but in general the feedback i can give from the Galaxy series phones of Samsung:

1. GPS reception is not good. Unless you use some hacks (like GPSbooster)
2. Samsung does not provide Android OS updates to existing models.

Atleast above two issues have come up during my ownership of Galaxy 3.

1. True . And true with many other models too. But definitely not an issue after the booster.

2. True w.r.t Gal 3 and not for S and SL.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

well, the Ace with a 16GB MicroSD card would cost me 16-16.5k, whereass the SL with 16GB memory would be around 19.5k. So it should be 3-3.5k well spent..

Please note that Galaxy SL doesn't come with 16 GB internal memory in India. In India, its available with only 4 GB internal memory. But, still its one of the best android phones available in the market. So, if you have the budget, go for it..

I think the Ace is like 500 rs more at least in Bangalore. In addition, the whole damn city seems to be out of stock of the phone. I checked out multiple stores today and they were all out of stock.
