re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I have managed to get the LCD of My Dell Streak to go bad!
There is no damage on the exterior of the phone (1 month old!).
But, the LCD is dying from a corner..

Now, the phone is bought from US, and the Dell guy I called says, that the International Warranty does not apply in India!!

I really want my Streak back and healthy!!

Is there anybody here in Dell, or Someone who can help?

Thanks,

Care,

Ace.

Re: LG Optimus 1.

I got myself a LG optimus one at univercell for 11.3K(Includes theft insurance). Initial thoughts, FM radio does not sound good(You need to plug in the earphones to get it working, even then the voice cracks). Call quality is OK. New to android, have to explore all the other features. Having some difficulty in receiving calls by swiping across the phone. Is there any other way of receiving calls?

Battery seems to be draining fast. I am recharging every 24 hours. Also, might be coz was exploring the phone(I am new to touch screens).

Any updates on the move to gingerbread for this phone?

Thanks.

Guys - Why dont we make a list of all applications that we have downloaded from Market or from somewhere else & which we feel might help others also. A request to add what the application is actually for & to who and for what it could be useful. It will definitely be of great help for those who are new to the Android platform.

The same issue had happened to my old phone , SE W705. One day, one pixel became dead and then like an infection, it started growing. There is no way to rectify this issue other than replacing the whole display unit. For my W705, they quoted something like INR 1700 for the display. Now for smartphones with bigger displays, the cost will be few times that.

How fast is it dying? In my case it was like few pixels a month.. very slow.

Re: Android applications

Anyone using a fuel expense tracker / mileage calculator app?

I've been using Mileage and it was okay till the last update, which messed up all the calculations on the data entered, but the data is safe. I am looking for migrating the data so far (of course manually), to a more reliable application.

I am using that MILEAGE app. Installed it on your recommendation, but didn't get any updates for this app, though all other app's got a update as I have mentioned in my previous post.
I have not used any other app for fuel expense/mileage tracking , so can't really comment on any.

Clarivue is OUTSTANDING quality. I've used their screen protectors on my E71 and they outlast the life of the phone itself!

What are the specs? Eclair or Froyo?

Is Galaxy 3 with the slide out QWERTY?

Go for the Nexus S. Updates will be quick unlike the other phones for which you will need the manufacturer/carrier to release the update.

There are a range of pixels already dead! like 15% of the screen!

I have the fone switched off since then.. (yikes.. Scooby!)

I searched ebay, and its 9000 INR minimum! (ships from US.. DO not know how reliable/unreliable it is).
(Holy Cow!)
But, better than that, can anyone help me out on the warrranty thingie?

Any Dell guy/gal here willing to help!?

care,

Ace.
