re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

finally i got the Dell XCD35. Was blown out by the screen resolution. its the best screen all the way to Samsung ACE.

400X800 resolution for a android device that costs 10,500rs is too good.

but the handset has not come with 2.2 out of the box. will go to the dell service centre tommorrow and upgrade to 2.2.

i considered the lg optimus P500 too, but i thought of experimenting with dell this time.

Thanks to blueangel180 for guiding me to buy the ZTE blade, aka San Fransisco aka Dell.

Can you please tell me how to unlock the ram to 512 mb. its locked to 256mb.

Isn't the Acer Liquid (I guess) a better value at 11K?

smaller screen 3.2 inch, low resolution due to which i dint consider it.

camera is better on acer. rest all specs are same.

dell xcd35 has way better support in terms of online forums upgrade etc. due to huge market of zte blade and orange san fransisco.

by the way how to get the navigation working on these handsets.

i get message " Waiting for location" since long time.

You can try brut maps, its a google maps mod. Using this you'll be able to cache map tiles over wifi and later use it on the road. Google for it and you will find detailed instructions and download links.

My new favourite is Netflix on Android 2.3.4. Simply awesome, having dozed off midway throught the late night movie, I can continue at the stop light or at lunch break. Simply brilliant. DVD is going to die such a fast death. The cloud rocks!

Swype ka ek version works. Look up the motorola defy CM7 thread - someone posted a brazilian version - which works in US english or such.
[DEV][ROM] CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3.4) - xda-developers - search in there only.

Thanks phamilyman. I installed swype(beta) through the same beta url I used last time when I installed on the stock set up. It went through fine. One strange thing noticed is that when I use raaga.com app everything else come to standstill. though the overall performance has improved, this is one little exception I am not able to understand. On stock froyo it used.to run seamlessly in the background.

Did you try Press and hold the home screen? Typically that is where you get the option to change the wallpapers.

Try Sygic mobile maps. A thorough search on WWW will yield easy ways to download a hacked version with lifetime free maps+upgrades.

Re: Android applications (Apps)

Guys,

Is there a comprehensive ad blocker? Something which can smite down both AdMob and whatever **** Airtel uses.

Basically, there is this @(*#*&@#*&@*&# $exyRacing ad which comes on some stupid applications. Now I dont know who/when clicked on it - I got an sms at a time when i was not even using the phone - but it got "downloaded" and I got a SMS from Airtel billing me for it. @(#@#

I want to smite all such ad-fart-ware out of my phone. First the apps do minimum work - then they bill you just like that. WTH

PS: The irony - short of asking your janampatri - they ask 3-4 questions before cust care talks to u - but for billing, NO click is required. Shameless cheats
