I can find howtos on doing the things other way around. the PC uses the android device as a modem / whatever to connect to the net.
This type of usage is rare. If your pc gets broadband through a wifi router then phone also can be connected to it. If pc is directly connected to modem via ethernet cable, then your can create a wifi ad-hoc network or a wifi hotspot itself (windows 7 supports this) and phone can connect to it. Never tried usb tethering.

If indeed 15k, thats fantastic news! I am already a bit partial towards the how the new Xperie series looks.
However, I dont think it will be anything under 22-25k. UK pre order price itself is 350 pounds. UK launch on 15th August.
Ofcourse, I would love to be wrong on the pricing front for this one.

well if u see, the specs are comparable to the xperia mini pro sk17i (same 1GHz snapdragon proc, similar sized screen etc. only diff seems to be 8mp shooter instead of 5mp one.

Flipkart.com: Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro SK17i: Mobile

now I would believe Ray's prices should be along same lines. It should definitely be less than the X10 which sells for about 21k. That is 4" range. Ray is only 3.3".

I read somewhere it is expected to cost about 300 euros in Europe. I have seen price scale factor of 50 for other phones (Europe price vs India price).

Otherwise the sk17i itself is quite amazingly specced for its price.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys am on the look out for a new phone in exchange for my Nokia 5800.

I am considering the Samsung Galaxy ACE but I am a bit inclined to spend a wee bit more and get the Galaxy S Plus with the 1.4 GHz processor.

My only grouch is the lack of flash in the latter. Which one of the two would you guys recommend?

Main usage would be texting, listening to music, the odd movie and a few clicks and IM.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Cheers,
Kaushik

Hi All,

Here is the first take on the new Samsung Galaxy R: Samsung Galaxy R First Take - Phones - CNET Asia

It seems Galaxy-R is to Galaxy S-II what Galaxy SLCD is to the Galaxy S.

Google is buying Motorola. Motorola had threatened a law suit against android couple of days back. The stated price is 12.5 Billion USD.

Woot. Who would've thought it? Now I've got an official Google phone!

But seriously, what a premium to be paid for Motorola! Still don't get it.

I have done this using PDAnet long time back over USB. It's pretty straight forward and easy. Have done it on a mac, should work on windows too.

EDIT: My bad. Think I didn't understand the question. Ok, one possible solution is to create a wi-fi network and connect the phone to that. Should be easy enough.

Motorola Unveils Updated Defy+ Rugged Smartphone
Source Link >> Motorola Unveils Updated Defy+ Rugged Smartphone | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

Motorola on Monday announced an updated version of its rugged Defy smartphone, dubbed the Defy+.

The 3.7-inch Defy+ runs a 1-GHz processor and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The device is water resistant and dust proof, as well as scratch-proof thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass, enough to "survive a sudden rain shower, a day on the beach, an all-night party," Motorola said. The company promised up to 7.1 hour of talk time and 16 days in standby.

The Defy+ includes 2GB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB, a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, flash, and digital zoom, and Motorola's MotoBlur service. It also supports Adobe Flash Player 10.

The Defy+ will be available in Asia, Europe, and Latin America in early fall.

It is a very strategic move in my opinion and they are not really paying much premium. They are paying only about 67% premium and the Motorola mobility shares are already up by over 56% in NASDAQ. Google is certainly having bigger plans for the home entertain market. MMI has a strong presence in cable, IPTV, DVR and other set top box equipment apart from their existing relationships with Comcast, Time Warner and other TV service providers . Look at the MMI's product line. Google also acquired Sage TV a few months back. It looks like Google has lot to benefit with MMI merger, and they premium they are paying may be really small.

They are big players with all the leading cable tv providers. Big MSOs like Comcast mostly uses moto boxes. I think moto is stronger in that segment much more than they are in the mobile field. One of our clients has millions of moto boxes deployed all across the country they are operating.

But Google is aquiring only the mobiles division- Motorola Mobilty, which is has a rather weak base now, compared to main competition. But based on Google's operating history, they really have their own way to success!

I hope they directly come out with strong competition to the iphone.
