Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Finally installed ICS on my Xperia Ray. So far so good. Graphically, ICS feels way better. Lag seems to have reduced and it does feel snappier. Gotta ride it more to notice other changes...

No it doesn't, you will still get touchwiz. If you don't like touchwiz, install some other launcher like go launcher ex and make it the default launcher. You will never see touchwiz again

Flashing thru ODIN can be done any number of times.

Phone Deck

Hey.

Came across this app today and have just installed it. I find it to be very useful. It lets us make calls/send sms when away from the phone. Some of the features of this app are/were offered by Nokia via their PC Suite, but this one is for Android and the presentation is a lot better.

Your thoughts ?

.
Agree with F150. You flash with kies or with ODIN, the end result is the same.

Try Nova Launcher. Its absolutely brilliant and its free.

Gives you amazing custom settings and is super super smooth.

After lot of permutation combination, I arrived at such a solution. But for me, both devices are android.

1) Xperia Neo for day to day activities
2) Galaxy Tab 2 (Ordered, yet to receive) for PDF reading, browsing at home and occasional GPS use in car.

Believe me, for PDF reading I even felt the 4.3" screens to be inadequate. Thats why arrived at this

If you really need to read PDF files, I think even 7 inc tabs wont work well.
I have the 7 inch kindle and I tried reading PDFs. Its just not possible, where you keep scrolling.

You will need a 9 inch tablet.

Actually, I have a 7" chinese from a friend of mine which I keep for the past month or so to try out. I felt comfortable reading PDF however. I too was inclined to 9 inch+ but felt like it'll be difficult to hold long, especially while reading on bed. So just picked the 7"

Lucky you

Well, i have used ipad2 and believe me the eyes really hurt on them even after reading say 2 / 3 pages due to oleds. somehow then its my experience. (i dont like ipad personally) but then its not a 100% major factor deciding. I have heard good reviews about ics4.0. and its smaller in size to carry around than 10 inchers. if its a 10 incher screen, then i would have gone for a netbook (eyes closed).

anyways..

so i understand the best combo

1. galaxy tab2 with ICS4 & a decent phone with buttons like eg. nok x2-03

The deal is still on. Check this out

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P-3100 Wi-Fi, 3G, 16GB INBUILT MEMORY , 7" P3100 Tab | eBay

Yes, I too had the same opinion about OLEDs. For some reason I have never been a fan of OLEDs. Am not a fan of those highly saturated pixels. What you felt is correct, for reading books an LCD seems to be a better solution (at least for my eyes).

Your wrong there man. ipad 2 is not an OLED. Its an Lcd display.
And on a more general topic, none of the lcd/Oled screens are good for reading for long times. Paper-ink displays are the best which are on Kindle/Nook/adam etc..

Well Ipad2 is LED lit which i meant..still it hurts the eyes. "9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology"

correction its not OLED, its LED

the main issue with an LCD while reading is the back light, the kind of back light (LED/CFL) doesn't matter.prolonged reading will hurt your eyes.

If you need a good PDF reader get a kindle/nook. you'll get the base models for ~5k. these are black and white though.you can buy the galaxy note as your primary phone as it is big enough to read most PDF's.
