what does Cynogenmod use? i find the key board to be the best i have used and has better accuracy to identify words.

Swype - Have stopped using it after few days of fun. The prediction is a little off and it gets on your nerves when you are typing an urgent message.

Best solution is to just use key board without prediction and type what i want.

So how many of you have got official ICS on your phone ?
Google, today has released the official 4.1 Jellybean statue. It confirmed an update for Galaxy Nexus too. Hope we Nexus S users get it too.
Guess google is getting ready to fight iOS5

I am on the latest ICS rom, though on a custom flavour called MIUI, which is as famous as cyanogenmod. I am using Xiaomi Mi-One phone which is also another source built rom based phone like the nexus versions.

I can choose to install the stock Android latest version or the MIUI flavored version through the recovery which supports two diff system partitions !! I am having fun with this phone actually.

coming to jelly bean update, i dont think it is going to provide any major features, but may fix some animation jitters and minor stuff like that. I dont think it is to fight IOS5, which is taking Siri seriously in this new version. Jelly bean might not give us an android equivalent of siri, but something like that might come by dec '12

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

A dealer who has advertised on Quikr promises Galaxy S3 at 33K and 2 Nos at 63K. Called him up and he says they are brand new boxed pieces with bill and Warranty. Planning to go there tomorrow (somewhere in Jayanagar 9th block) and see how genuine the offer is. Wonder what the catch is ???

I would advise you to buy it. I've been using it since early April and attest to its quality. And at that price, no question about it. Pick it immediately.

The best keyboard I've ever used - TouchPal. Swiping and Swype gestures in TouchPal simply rocks. :-)

Thanks I did indeed go for it. Few things:

Any good recommended cases? I am in love with the Spigen Crumena Leather pouch: HTC One X Crumena Leather Pouch Series - One X - HTC - Cell Phones but not sure of best way to buy it here.

Also do I need a screen protector even though its got gorilla glass?

And how is the white? Does it get dirty easily??

Cheers/

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Motorola Defy XT is coming up for 12951/- tomorrow at 12 noon, on homeshop18, also there is a deal for nokia lumia. Just got an email from homeshop18.com

HomeShop18.com Superdeals: Nokia Lumia 710, Motorola Defy XT, Dell Vostro V1540 (i3 - 2GB - 500GB - Ubuntu - 15.6") laptop

I would say 13K for Defy XT is pretty good deal.

Paid Rs 13000.

Processor - 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom.
RAM - 1GB
Storage - 16GB internal
Camera - 8MP
Video Plyback - Can play 1080p videos out of the box.
Yeah, the size of the Note can be quite intimidating. It can be a pain!
How is the XOLO so far?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) has been released.

Jelly Bean, Android 4.1 revealed by Google -- Engadget

Key features

-System works at 60 fps to improve performance and response time. Its called project butter
- Home screen has new feature like dynamic resizing of widgets.
- Easy to remove a widget by just throwing it away.
- Offline voice input. Use voice to record anything even in airplane mode.
- Camera app - the gallery has more features. Easy delete, easy to view pictures.
- Notification bar revamped with dynamic expand and shrink.

And finally, Google Nexus has a price cut of $50 so now unlocked version is $350 and it will have 4.1 on it.

Can't wait to lay my hands on one.

Me! Me!! Me!!! Thanks to Sony - two versions already. The 1st one really buggy and almost like beta (shame Sony!) and the current one which is much better, but still has its share of bugs.

Any idea if they have improved on the camera on this latest offering? The pathetic cam on the earlier ones really kill the deal totally.

No, I did no face any issues with the Beta at all.

One advantage of Swype over Swift key or Touchpal is when you are in a moving vehicle and you need to type.
It is easier to drag your finger across the virtual keypad, then it is to accurately type some of the letters.
Hence Swype is easier and faster in that scenario.
Very true. I still find it very difficult and irritating to text (even with Swiftkey) in a vehicle or even while walking. Swype aside, I feel there is nothing better than a nice tactile hardware QWERTY keyboard for typing in all kind of scenarios. Touch even with Swiftkey (or equivalent) just falls flat in these scenarios. Swype is somewhere in the middle.

However, on a 3.3" narrow screen like that of the Ray, I don't find Swype upto it. There just isn't enough real estate to Swype without speeding off the cliff, so to speak. In landscape, its possible, but that mode does not work for me as one can't see the sent messages above, can't access WA emoticons, etc. Swiftkey saves the day for me as it actually makes the portrait mode usable.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Vis a vis ICS and Jellybean. There may not be upgrades to Jellybean around any time soon. Seems even today the ICS penetration is only under 10%. Nobody is interested in pushing updates - phone vendors (they are only interested in your next phone), Service Providers (abroad they already have you locked in and care two hoots about what OS you are running). So looks like CM, MIUI and co may be the only way for us.
