Interesting. Seems like Google might put Swiftkey outta business? Personally, I'm not too sure which one would be faster. Would have to time it and see. Or it may be personal preferance. For me both work... as long as the screen is big enough. As we can see, there are many here who would rather bet on sliding. Or maybe we need something thats good at both.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

so i'm moving from a iphone 3g to a Samsung S3.

I was wondering if there is an ideal/easy way to move all my contacts, SMS messages, Whatsapp messages from the iphone 3G to the Samsung S3.

Any help on the above would be appreciated. :-)

For your contacts you can sync them with ur gmail id and use the same to setup the same on your s3.

Few months ago a friend moved from 3gs to s2 and the shop he bought the phone from did all that for him. I am not sure about whatsapp though. I am 100% sure he had his phone book and sms all transferred from 3gs to s2.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Rana,

You can follow the following steps,

Here's what you do to sync everything to your Google account.
On your IPhone go to settings - mail, contacts and calendar - add account... Add your Google account as an exchange account and use "m.google.com" as the server. Leave domain blank.

Once you've done this it should sync all your Google contacts to your device. To get it working the other way, go back into mail, contacts and calendar and change the default account under contacts to "Google" or whatever you just named your new account. This will copy all of your existing contacts to your Google account which can then be used by your Android phone.

The benefit of doing it this way is that your Android and iOS devices will stay in sync without any third party software and without you having to do anything.

Talking about syncing...

With Google stuff and Android, it seems everything gets synced, almost too effortlessly.

With Mozilla Lightning, it is easy to display the contents of Google calendars, but not easy the other way around.

What I have never been able to do is to sync Lightning to Google, and thus, to my phone. The answer is GCALDaemon.

I use Thunderbird for mail and Lightning for calendar. Now, I can see my local calendar events, vis Google, on my phone

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

In continuation of previous discussion on Airdroid, it seems they have indeed carried out their promise in their reply to me! The app no longer auto loads or sits in RAM. Truly an app worth buying/donating to and rating 5 stars.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Checked out how long the battery on my lil' HTC will last with normal usage :

read around 1hour of voice calls, 20 mins of web surfing (EDGE), 10 - 15 mins

of non HD video, and around 15 mins of the ever so addictive Temple Run.

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-20120620_155415.jpg

Note : At the time of clicking this, the battery was at around 18%. I did not

want to let it go below 15% for fear of killing the battery.

Why would going below 15% kill the battery?

Well, I'm not entirely sure about this, but I have read that Lithium ion

batteries should not be allowed to drain completely before recharging, doing

so can severely affect battery life. Can the experts confirm this?

PS - My Dell laptop's user manual tells me not to drain the battery levels

beneath the 25% barrier to ensure good battery life.

Oh i thought, it was that one shouldn't completely drain the battery nor should one only charge it half way but always complete the cycle.

I came across this link:

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 Price in India on Jul 03, 2012 | Galaxy Ace 2 Review & Specfications | PriceDekho India

But the same mobile is not listed in flipkart or elsewhere.

well modern batteries have a fail safe mechanism inbuilt (they will never drain completely).

In fact it is a good practice to calibrate your battery periodically (maybe once in 2-3 months). Let it drain such that phone switches off itself (dont worry, still there will be some juice there, its just the protection mechanism at work there). Then charge it for 8 hours while your phone is switched off. Then switch it on and charge it for an hour or so. Then again switch it off and charge for an hour. This would recalibrate the battery.

It is also recommended to do the above every time you flash a new ROM etc.
