How to transfer songs from iPod -> PC

Hi Guys,

Need some help with my 80GB Ipod. How do i empty/transfer the files on the Ipod to a PC. Want to delete some play lists and files as it is currently full and i want to transfer some new music there.

If there is some software that I can download for free would appreciate some links.

Go to apple.com/itunes/ and download the application and then install that in your PC. You can organize, add, delete any file from your Ipod through this application.

itunes does not allow transfer of music from ipod to PC - easily.

Hi,

Itunes does not allow to copy from Ipod to PC. I could not find any freeware that allows you to transfer all files. Most only allow 1 file or folder for free. Can you PM or mail(jngoradia@gmail.com) me link if you do not want to post here.

Why dont you connect your iPOD as a USB device and copy the music folder?

hi. theres loads of freeware or trial software that allow you to transfer from ipod to pc. catch is - they only allow transfer of a handful of songs at a time.

i use copytrans - the paid version.

the only way u can use itunes to transfer from ipod to pc, is by using ur ipod as a hard disk and transferring the folder. google it.

Using Itunes

One more option using ITunes

a) In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.

b) In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders."

c) Navigate to the Music folder in the IPD . Portable Media Devices\xxx'S IPOD (F\iPod_Control\Music

d) Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.

e) In ITunes, you can automatically organize your folder by artist and album. (To do this, in iTunes Edit menu, choose Preferences and in the Advanced tab, check "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized.")

I tried copying files from my Ipod to PC by using the Ipod as a hard disk. But the file name of the songs were converted into codes for eg:- hrdg, jqik. Now I have to play each song and then rename the file. Is there a workaround for this?

Well - I use mediamonkey to manage my music collection.
here is how you can do it - Copy the entire contents of ipod into your HDD. Use MediaMonkey to manage these - media monkey has a feature called auto filename from tags where it can reorganize your library based on the ID3 tags of your files, very helpful and you can automate the process as well.

Then use itunes to copy/sync your music with ipod.

There is a utility called iDump, which I used. It worked.
But used it just once.

(Source is always a disk. Never ran into a situation where source is gone and all we have is the IPOD version!)
