Ahhh ... so you pinged this morning! But yes, because I was busy driving couldn't type more than a few letters. (Trying some speech to text converter on my phone). Someday we'll catch up.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Downloaded and installed it on my Samsung Galaxy 3, joined "www.team-bhp.com" group but couldn't find "New Delhi Wazers" created by ByDesign rather found "Delhi - Wazers" and joined that.

Let's see how it works. I don't think there are many Delhi/NCR bhpians on Waze.

All Delhi/NCR users, I too have downloaded the app. Let's see if I get "Wazed" by anyone. I would be traveling mostly in Gurgaon/South Delhi. My user name is Sinner666-teambhp

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Hey just a small doubt. Does this thing need a dedicated GPRS dataplan activated or does it work on the "pay as you use" GPRS thing that is pre-activated? I am on Vodafone Delhi/NCR.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

You need a data plan with http aka internet access (some plans allow only wap access).

For using Waze or any application that frequently communicates with its servers, I would advise getting an unlimited data plan or at least one with a fairly high monthly usage. Any 'pay-as-you-use' plan would naturally result in increasing your bill every time you use it, which is ... discouraging.

You can turn on the network monitor (More -> Settings -> Data Usage -> Display network monitor) which will show the cumulative data transfer each time you run Waze.

Shuckz!
That is a big disappointment. Looks like I finally need to get a second fone with a new connection. I use a Corporate Connection which gives me a very good deal on calls & messages but I cannot activate any further services on it as I have left the organization where I used to work when I bought the connection. I would have loved to WAZE but seems the plans have to be put on hold for a while.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

I have a couple of questions:

What is day/night mode and how does it work?
How can you apply for the area manager position?

Most likely depending on the time (or ambient light) the map display changes theme from light background to dark, for better visibility I think.

In such case you need to join a group through your PC on waze.com

I have another issue to report, of late my waze has stopped hooking up to GPS on my Samsung Galaxy 3. However long I keep it running, it just goes on searching and does not lock to the GPS whereas if I open Google maps, it locks in few seconds or mins at max. Any idea what could be causing this?

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Did you try Settings -> Detect GPS? If that doesn't do it, I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the Waze client.

I had faced a problem recently in that Waze stopped talking to me (no sound). After a few attempts to change the language didn't help, I uninstalled (deleted the folder -- WinMo 6.1 / Omnia II) and reinstalled the program and things were back to normal.

More recently, for the last 3 days, Waze is unable to route me and reports a routing server timeout. Anyone else facing this problem? If it's just me, I'll probably have to uninstall/reinstall again.
