Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

You can use QuickGPS lite, works the same, downloads ephemeris data to speed up ur satellite lock.

Ah! Ok so that's why I do not find it as I have Galaxy 3. I tried using "GPS Status" app but it's not helping as well. Waze has not been able to establish a GPS lock for past two days over 50kms of driving

it sometimes takes time to update the database. some time later, the points will tally.

Am using a Galaxy 3 and Waze is performing well on it, only thing is I rarely use it as Brut maps are more convenient as it can give you better viewing options like, satelite, road, traffic etc. I used to get GPS signal within secs if its a open space, if not, may take even 2-3 minutes to get a sat lock, depends on the place.

GPS status is also working cool with G3.

Thanks for update buddy. As a matter of fact, Google Maps establishes a GPS lock relatively much sooner. I'll un-install and reinstall waze to see if it fixes the issue.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

When I set a destination for navigation, i get the voice saying "You've reached your destination" immediately even though I am 20 kms away.

Satellite lock for me has been super quick, 30sec max in open area. Using on BB curve. It depends on the phone as well.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

It seems to depend on more than just the phone. Last month, on an open beach near Honnavar/Kasarkode, I waited for about 3 minutes (wanted to record a new road that wasn't on the map) and finally gave up: no GPS lock. At other times/places, I can get a lock within a minute or so indoors (top floor only).

Maybe it also depends on which and how many satellites are in view.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

I have been getting indoor locks(top floor, near windows) which perplexed me. I thought that it must be A-GPS thing. now I know I am not alone.

That's interesting. What phone? Did you try any troubleshooting? And where were you, and what did you set as your destination?

I have a simble, not so smart Nokia 5230. I have tried navigating many times, for e.g, i start from koyambedu and set the destination at a point in anna nagar, i get this message "You've reached your destination", i ignore and start driving and suddenly get directions which tell me to go straight up and turn right to nelson manickam road, god knows what it will say once i get there, maybe "you damn fool, turn around".

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Hahaha... you never know what the devices know

Let me take a look when we meet. The Waze system is not perfect, and the maps are far from it too. But it is an interesting concept, which I hope would mature and be useful sometime (hopefully soon).
