Redington Service Center

Have given my fathers Javelin for repair under warranty and was gauranteed the phone would be sent from Bombay to Banglore to be returned back to me in no more than 10 days.

It has been 3 weeks and no sign of the phone ! Numerous calls everyday to their service center in andheri, which I may add is a nightmare to get through to- either their lines are busy or out of service. I managed to get hold of their Maharastra heads number and he gives the story like the service center chaps " Sirrr it will be here by tomo" Obviously that tomorrow never comes.

Anyone have a higher contact that I can report this to?

How good is the GPS service and feature on BB? I am vascillating between 8520 and 8900. The price difference is good Rs 5,000. And the only difference in the phones is GPS (in 8900) apart from the resolution of the screen, etc.

I am also planning to buy a GPS separately. If the BB GPS serves the purpose for my drives, might as well save the 15,000 I will spend on the GPS unit.

Also, where can I buy a BB (for less money) with bill, warranty and complete pack. The Redington guy is quoting 15200 for 8520.

I'd say go for a 8900, if you really have to have the trackpad then go for 8520 and i saw it selling for 12800 in delhi.

8900 has much much better camera than 8520! Look and feel wise its a better fone too. As far as BB GPS is concerned i've logged routes, tracked friends and navigated using gmaps and other applications on my bold multiple times and its never failed me.

In open, the gps lock is under a min!

@ BB OS 5.0 - The Threaded sms is awesome! The gallery is better implemented and thumbsnails are generated much faster, Plus you can scroll through the pictures using the trackball. Music player has some changes too. Overall after the upgrade, the phone feels much faster and better. now i'm really in two minds about getting the 9700.

akshay : i think 464 is a newer version although unofficial!

Anyway I love this new 5.0 OS! Everything is smoother, faster, better. The threaded sms has a small problem, since now it looks like BB MSGER, i have ended up sending many sms's with just "OK" as if i was chatting up on bb msger.

Will be going for 9700 soon though ... Anyone here who has used the 9700? please share ur experience

Used it for a day - didn't like it.
* Keys too close for comfort, complicated by the sculpting. Will take a lot of getting used to from a larger device like 8707 or Bold
* Screen feels too small - smaller than 87xx or 88xx models
* Speed over Wi-fi was not all that blazing
* The trackpad takes some effort to adjust to. Especially since there is no feedback to the thumb - one really needs to look at the screen whether the pointer/cursor is really at exact place where one needs it
* Youtube videos showed a lot of pixellation. Not sure what was contributing to that
* Camera performance *bad* in low light, worse than HTC devices
