Once you've installed the update on your PC, just go to X:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\ or X:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion and delete the Vendor.xml file. Then update using AppLoader.
Clarification : use loader.exe (Apploader)

And correction, it's X:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml

Gurus,

I am planning to upgrade my BB8900 from 4.xx to 5.xx and have a few questions:

1. Would I loose all the data on the BB during the upgrade process?
2. My back-up settings on the Desktop Software enables me to back up the entire DB on the device. If the data is lost during the upgrade and I restore the data using the back-up, do I have to ignore some the data? If so, what minimum data should I back-up?
3. Would I have reconfigure my mails and messengers?

PS: I am on 299 plan from Vodafone.

Appreciate your responses.

Cheers,

1] No. Keep a backup before you upgrade it. It will restore it after the update is done.
2] Application settings are usually not carried forward, everything else is fine.
2] Not if you've done a proper backup. The messengers will need logging in again though.

Cheers,
Upgraded my BB8900 to OS 5.xx

The upgrade was smooth, barring the fact that I had to load the IMs again. Other than that no trouble during the upgrade. the whole process of OS upgrade would have taken approx 30 mins.

The only issue that I am facing is that my GMail is not showing any mails, though the Mailbox shows mails from all my configured mails. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

I was wary too, but what the heck. Give it a shot. It should be pretty smooth.

You have to look at the applications being installed/ uninstalled list carefully while upgrading, the reason for IM not getting installed is tht by default it doesnt select it.

Send your service books again or goto service book menu in your BB and do a delete of gmail MIME service book and undelete by selecting it and BB menu button.

Thanks Dadu.

I have everything working now. No issues.

First impressions, 5.xx is quite good. Love the fact that the SMSes get grouped and within a single thread you have the entire history of the SMSes from the person.

Hello Gurus,

My wife uses a Blackberry Curve 8310 and last night the phone decided to jump out of her hand and bang on the road. Luckily it survived. The issue now is the Ring that holds the trackball fell off and we couldnt find it on the accident site. and now the trackball keeps falling off every now and then.

I checked on amazon and found that a replacement is available. Any idea if this is available in local shops? Please see image below.

Thanks!

Just download and install, you dont have wait for it to be released by Indian Telecom providers(as noone knows when they will wake up). Just delete the vendor.xml before starting the install.

Bsnl 3g

Anybody here using the BSNL 3G with Blackberry?
.:: BSNL ~Blackberry Internet Services ::.

The Prepaid tariff is 899 per month for BIS + 21 for 3G = Rs.920

That is an awesome plan considering 3G unlimited is 2,999 per month.

Anyone here have tried that?

Gurus, my BB Bold got into a mishap.

I dont know how but, some oil seemed to have seeped into the screen, which is visible harshly in white background on left bottom and right bottom corner screen.

What is the solution to eradicate the problem? Is changing the screen the only resolution? If yes, what damages i am looking at?
