And, you need to sign up for the minimum BB plan to make use of emails and IM's ( Rs.299/Month)
Folks,

Blackberry Services are pretty much available for pre-paid customers aswell.

how does it work on pre-paid accounts? do i just plug in the sim and go like any other phone? Im really thinking about trading in my E63 and getting a 8520 but if i have to get some specific plan and stuff then its not worth it.

This is news to me. How does it work with prepaid customers? Do they charge Rs.299 specially for BB services in advance? Somehow this idea seems strange.

But, considering the fact that prepaid customers are as much as 80% or more of entire customber base for any TSP they are looking at substantial revenue generation

Yes I've heard they are available on prepaid for most of the providers.

The different BB plans available in the market for postpaid customers are the same for prepaid customers.

BB 299 for mails and messengers and BB 899 for everything unlimited ( internet ).

It works exactly the same way, the way you buy talk time, in the same way you buy BB services. You re-charge for talktime, similarly you re-charge for BB services.

PS : Though I am sure there wouldnt be a chota recharge available for BB services.

So i just bought the 8520 yesterday (traded in my E63). Its a wonderful phone , but will Mobile Office on Airtel work with it? I used to access the net on my E63 with this and i got the settings sent to my Berry but i couldnt save them. Is this the point where i need to get a BB plan?

Never mind..just got Opera Mini...Mobile Office works through that . Yay

Blackberry STORM 2 - does anyone know the latest price for this ? Is there any site / blog which has the latest prices for blackberry phones ?

Also, i have heard the phones are cheaper in asian (singapore / malaysia) and gulf countries than in India (dubai etc ). Is that true ?? Are those phones unlocked to be used with any network in india ??

Few questions:

1. Is the BB OS v5 available for 8900 specifically. Is it like model dependent / available for all / carrier dependent ?

2. Redington website does not list the price for BB. Am i looking at the right place ?

3. For a first time touch screen user, would you suggest storm 2 or is it safe to go for 8900 (without touch screen) ?

So i called up Airtel & Vodafone and got the price list for few BB models

Model - Airtel / Vodafone
9700 - 31990 / 32990
9000 - 26990 / 34990 (i double checked it with vodafone rep)
8900 - 19990 / 26990 (i double checked it with vodafone rep)

1. Why is there a huge diff in 9000 and 8900 prices. Is there a catch somewhere ??

2. An unlocked phone purchased from outside india - will work with airtel / vodfaone without any issues ?? Should i be concerned about this ?

Sorry for the multiple posts - the queries keep popping up at strange time intervals

Here the more precise prices for BB from redington:

9700 - 29,000
9000 - 25,000
8900 - 17,900
8530 - 13,000
9500 / 9530 - 16,500

Storm 2 is not yet launched in India.

9000 and 8900 are completely different phones, price difference was always there.
Yes, unlocked BB, bought from anywhere in the world, would work on Airtel.

BB os 5.0 can be upgraded on any phone (9000/9700/8900)
I would not recommend Storm. Its not a very good touchscreen experience. Screen is requires double click to select anything.
There is no better alternative than a QWERTY Physical keyboard.

Blackberry phones are now unlocked also available with any local shop and can be used with any prepaid card. Only if you want exclusive BB services then only you have to buy a plan from the operator.
I am planning to buy curve 8900 at 18k. Is the price ok? Guys post some experience about this phone.

Storm 2 is hitting indian markets by wednesday or so at an extremely high price of Rs.31,990 MRP :(

crazy when the earlier storm was priced by Redington at 20,490 MRP. Wonder how the market is going to respond to this new price

You can get Berries at much cheaper prices if you shop around and go the grey way. Their warrenty and service is horrid anyways. The savings in some cases are huge.
