How much does a new BB 9700 cost? Somebody is selling a 5 month old piece, so just want to compare. Thanks in advance

The 9700 costs abt 21.5 to 22.7 k. Varying from store to store. But not sure how woud you rate the price of a 5 month old piece. Btw, what's the price on offer for that? If you can stretch and afford, go for the 9780. Better camera and faster processor.

So how would you rate the 3G on vodafone on your BB 9700? I am currently using BB8520 and planning to upgrade to 9700.

Has the surfing experience gone up?
Honestly BBMs are a bit quicker. And surfing too is quite a bit faster but I mainly use my phone for BBMs and mails, not much surfing. I just activated it for the heck of it since theyre not charging more.

Once downloaded install the firmware then open my computer> c drive> program files> common files> apploader. In here delete the vendor.xml file at the bottom. Then in the same folder you will see an exe file of apploader. Click that and install your firmware, it will work on any phone whether locked or not.
Thanks Akshay. Is this file (vendor.xml) responsible for locking the phone with the Telecom vendors ?

Thanks Harshal. Have already spent quite a significant amount on gadgets this year. So 'used' is the way to go for me now. The particular piece is available for ~13K INR.

So this morning I connected my Bold II to the desktop manager and it upgraded itself to OS6 officially. Not bad.

Confirmed and works beautifully. Feels like an all-new phone. Feels like the Bold III.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

@quadra yes it is! Make sure you delete it. Platform 6.3?! That's a new one. Or a typo. Could you please install and let me know of the difference. I have only ever found platform 5.2.X.X never the 6 series.

@sam you had a lucky day there! A lot of owners have been complaining of not getting their due official upgrades.

@driving smartly: turn on 3G on your phone and find out! But mind you its a real resource hog on the BB.

@SDP that's a steal of a price! Get it!

*GENERAL WARNING* : Friends on the higher BB's have been turning on their 3G services and then wondering what happened to their battery. Judicious use of the services are better else you'll be stranded in the middle of a work day with no battery :P we all know how Blackberryitis affects us all. No blackberryitis is not a typo!

I was wondering just that. Ever since my 3G started my battery is running out a lot quicker than with EDGE even though my usage is exactly the same. Am I right or just talking rubbish?

Sure, will do it soon. So whats the rollback plan in case i get stuck? How do i reload the old OS? Is it just via using the backup / restore file that i will save before the upgrade?

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

I guess my phone was trying to use the 3G service while I was in mumbai which explains the heating and the heavy loss in battery backup. Now that I am back to pune sanity has been restored. I guess the old 9000 was not really designed to use with 3G or vodafone had some network issue when I was in Mumbai last week end.
