When is the 9790 launching?

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

@9630: Are you sure it's a GSM version? Officially in India, RIM launched the tour as CDMA only with Reliance. Warranty would be an issue.

@9500/9530: Well these models have been stopped for quite some time now [more than a year] and are now being cleared at throw-away prices; which makes sense because if you start using them you will want to throw them away only

@9790: The launch date has not been revealed as yet. Just fiddled around with a prototype. The touchscreen on the 9900 makes sense but on the 9790 or whatever they will be calling it, it was like "oh it has a touchscreen by the way". That's all

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

I have a BB 8250 Curve phone and the panels have worn off in 20 months! I wanted to replace the full housing and I called up the RIM Service Center (Run by Remington ) in Bangalore, Jaya Nagar 3rd Block and they told me that it will cost Rs. 4100. I bought the phone at work, for Rs. 9500 in Jan 2010.

I checked eBay India and I found this for Rs. 850. OEM Blackberry Curve 8520 Full Housing But I'm not sure of the quality.

Is there an option?

BH

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

I too faced the same problems with my BB 8250. This model seems to be built to a cost, the rubber material started falling apart within 6 months of purchase. Now's there's nothing left of it. I have to use pen tips to adjust the volume settings on the side of the phone!

I thought of changing the complete panel but the cost of replacement parts at almost 4k is ridiculous!

The eBay option that you have suggested seams to be the only option but again the quality remains questionable.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Guys - a quick question on 8520. I have the BIS UL 599 plan activated. However, since 8520 is 2G phone, the web browsing speeds are pathetic.

I saw a BB kiosk at a mall today and the guy there told me to go for 9300 or 9780. He says that both have 3G and my existing plan would give me 3G speeds (he claims that's double the speed).

Is this true? If yes, how bad is the battery life on 9300/9780?

It indeed works, get a 3G BB phone, get a 3G ZERO rental plan activated along with your usual BIS Plan and enjoy 3G speeds, but the battery life goes down by 30%-40%.

I'm told that 3G would work right out of the box, as soon as I insert my BB enabled SIM into a 3G handset. No need to activate any 3G plan separately. That's what I need confirmation on.

Well, I am not sure about this, what I observed was that I had to get the plan activated to get 3G speeds. Right out of the box your phone will just read the 3G signals, this is what I experienced.

Tour is a discontinued and outdated phone. Don't be fooled by the discounted price. You are better of getting 3g Curve 9300 for 3k more.

If your budget can be doubled then there is no better option than the new launch I mentioned above.
